Artist Bio

Influences:   Jimmy Eat World, Phantom Planet, Imogen Heap, Weezer, They Might Be Giants, The Postal Service, Ray LaMontagne, Relient K, Wolf Parade, Regina Spektor, Tegan and Sara, Sigur Rós, James Taylor... I have always held a special spot in my soul for bluegrass, jazz, blues, and “oldies” as well. I’m not sure from where my own sound is derived, but I assume it’s a big mish-mash of little things I love about various songs I hear.

Second year of FAWM for me!

Thanks to 2017 FAWM, I was able to wriggle some ideas out of my head and into instruments and record them and in the following months play a few shows and share the stuff! I am super thankful for this group - it’s promoted a lot of growth for me, musically.

The website link will bring you to last year’s completed songs. (and now, also the results of FAWM 2018 - the EP "Sound the Lights!" Thanks Fawm!!!

I took piano when I was a kid, and my dad taught me some guitar and I learned some tabs for Dashboard Confessional songs when I was a brooding teen haha.
I mainly play by ear and like to figure songs out and do covers sometimes...
I like chocolate chip cookies, bread and coffee probably a little too much.

I have REALLY enjoyed discovered amazing musicians through FAWM and I’m so thankful this thing exists, and for the folks who put in all the hard work to run it and make it happen.

Thank you for your kind words on "Into the Ether" "Almost Dylan-esque" is a HUGE compliment. I wasn't too sure on how I felt about this one but I practiced it the other day and it has grown on me.

  • @metalfoot  Mar 8

Well, now that I've bought an album of yours I'll get automagic updates from Bandcamp every time you release something so that's awesome. 😁

  • @metalfoot  Mar 8

No Kitten Club on the sojourn of musical groups site? 😉 Thanks for answering my earlier query. Expect a sale of your album in the not-too-distant future. When I offer to buy an album, I mean it.

  • @quork  Mar 6

    Thanks for your great comments.

  • @metalfoot  Mar 5

But... no room elephant on the camp of bands?

  • @majordanby  Mar 4

Sorry you didn’t get to post your ‘single’ this year; but you probably went for quality over quantity 😉
    Great songs!

  • @jpt  Mar 3

No, I have not had a chance to get to know folks down there. Dave and Peggy have a Facebook presence and post it as an event should you ever want to attend.

  • @wistah  Feb 24

    Thanks for listening 😀

Hey @leah0k, here to poke you with a stick, gently, if you'd still like to participate in my cheesetastic FAWM ender. Backtrack is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x91zv17rs57...

Send your dry, unprocessed vox to: david.beukes@gmail.com

    Thanks!

  • @repsurepa Feb 20

Sorry for the late reply! But thank you so much for listening! 😀 I'm super glad it made an impact.

  • @misterd Feb 19

Thank you so much for listening and the kind and generous words on my song ' when things fall apart ' . I really appreciate it .

  • @mdavisto  Feb 15

Hey @leah0k, I saw you mentioning not being able to see tags on the mobile version of FAWM. This works for me:

    http://fawm.org/songs/tags/

    Bookmark it. Done.

    Hope that helps.

  • @nancihobson1  Feb 14

thanks for your nice comment on my song! I play at open mics, and at one of them, I have a lead guitar and bass, and I can't wait to try out that 'one more drink' song with them. I'm no good at recording that kind of song.

  • @europanmermaid  Feb 14

Thanks for explaining how you do your vocals. They are so lovely!!

  • @mungus  Feb 14

Thanks for listening to my mumbly track! I hope it made for good dishwashing accompaniment! A meditative quality sounds like just the thing I was after!

  • @meadows  Feb 14

Thanks for your kind words! 😀 Much appreciated!

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 13

  • @splittybooms  Feb 12

didn't get to respond yesterday, but every since I read the comment that someone was baking cookies to my song, i've felt like a million bucks! if nobody ever likes anything i ever make...ever...doesn't matter, because someone was bopping and making cookies to my stuff! thank you forever! lol

  • @ampersandman  Feb 12

Thank you so much for your encouraging comments, Leah! I'm not sure where you heard Weezer in "This is forever" (the tone of the electric guitar maybe?) but I definitely feel it's a huge compliment. Happy songwriting to you!

  • @metalfoot  Feb 10

One of my fondest memories of childhood is my mom singing me to sleep. I think it might work.

  • @mungus  Feb 8

Thanks for listening to Evergreen, and thanks about my voice

I agree, I need to work on how I mix vocals, I usually write music first before words, so I'm often quite attached to the music when the vocals arrive and don't quite know where to put them!

  • @ggallagher Feb 7

Thanks for listening! Yeah I’ve been playing with the campfires/ computer screens imagery for awhile and I’m glad I got to expand on it

  • @the7thnight Feb 6

This is a late thank you, but I appreciate you listening to my song!

Carbs... I approve of this message. 😀
(Still have yet to make those rolls - I was too busy with the music)

  • @julesbf Feb 4

Thanks for the comment on time to talk. Not used the phone much in the last few fawms feels a little inadequate given some of the amazing production some people achieve. Then I remind myself I am here to generate ideas and I am a little happier with my efforts

  • @zecoop  Feb 3

Thanks for checking out my surf tune! Much appreciated! And how did you know it was about guinea pigs? LOL 😀

  • @rachelmcclean Feb 2

Ta very much for your kind review 😀 😀 And yeah, I think listening back now the shock does work, I just felt like I'd said it a lot of times while I was recording, haha! Have a magical FAWM 2018!! 😀

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, we did completely unexpectedly meet up at Changi Airport. Neither of us had any idea the other would be there. And it wouldn't have happened if our plane hadn't been delayed.
