I ended up barely meeting the mark this time by improvising a song cycle of seven songs in a three-hour burst today. Haha... I had given up, but today I thought I'd just go for it. Sorry we didn't get to do another collaboration. I ended up swamped in the latter half of February. But we should definitely collaborate again some day.

    Expect some mails soon!
  •  samsorrow 3 months ago
Thanks for your kind comments on my songs. I do use tape at times but not all the time. I too am partial to a bit of hiss. it's the diy thing i guess. here's to the next song!
  • duckthomas 3 months ago
Cool, man. Send something my way, though I've got other projects this month that might slow me down.
  •  frenchcricket 3 months ago
Woah - careful what you say on the internet! That's how rumours start!
  •  vomvorton 3 months ago
It's a sampled piano with loads of tape noise in there... I can't take too much credit for that one! Cheers though, it DOES sound cool doesn't it? smile
  •  frenchcricket 3 months ago
Thanks dude! I keep it quiet, but Blur - Blur is my favourite album of theirs
  •  johnthomasmumm 3 months ago
Ok, I posted it. Great song, man.
  •  johnthomasmumm 3 months ago
Hey, I left a mix of the song on Dropbox and explained it a bit more over e-mail. See what you think!

I'm on PC, Win X P. I can either click which brings up a dialog giving me the option to "Open" or "Save" and choose "Save" or right-click and choose "Save Link As...". If you're on mac, I can't help you.
  •  burrsettles 3 months ago
Feb is awesome indeed. You're welcome!

If you plan to do more reggae, you should check out this thread first... http://fawm.org/forums/thread/3041/#fawmHeader
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
No that's good - happy to just put the eyebrows on it, or clean up after you've finished!
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
    just emailed the mp3
  •  johnthomasmumm 3 months ago
Thanks, man. That sounds like a good direction. I'm excited to hear what you come up with.
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
Re collab - I've got a chord sequence that's a bit sadie/karma police - maybe too similar why don't I email it to you and we could go back and forth adding ideas till we have something? How about you adapt/mutate what I send you and either add a melody or another chord sequence and then email it back to me and tell me what to do next? (PS old rough recording - very rubbish)
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
Hey Kidd - 2 requests first I'd love to collab - got any ideas/preferences?
2nd - I think your Last Chance album is great been listening to it today on my travels. I'd love to give it a plug on Beatles Songwriting Academy - I do an occasional series on how people have used Beatles influence to write songs here's a few links

is there anything on the album you could point to a specific Beatles influence? Would you be interested? Could be post FAWM!
  • timothybracken 3 months ago
Hey, thanks for the comment! Glad you like the song.
  •  frenchcricket 3 months ago
Thanks man - Your awesome 3-part harmonies make me wanna do them though!
  •  johnthomasmumm 3 months ago
Ok, I sent you an e-mail with a link to the files. I left them as wavs so we won't have to compress twice. I'm curious to see what you come up with!
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment Kidd - may your thumbs always be aloft. Glad you like that link it was literally 2 seconds work and everyone is saying it's the highpoint of the song - crazy!
  •  johnthomasmumm 3 months ago
How about this for a collab idea. I've got a verse I like but I'm not satisfied with the chorus ideas. I could send you the verse vocals and gtr and you could come up with the chorus parts (including vocals). Of course, you could add other parts to the verse as well if you want. Then either we could leave it as is or I could add guitar to the chorus. The only thing is that I don't know how people here go about sharing files.

thanks for the tip for the Shanty songs, cheers - Kidd.
  •  debrandio 3 months ago
Grandaddy? Wow thanks. Too embarrassed to say what instrument I'm playing on, just know it running through a bunch of effect pedals
  •  johnthomasmumm 3 months ago
Hey Kidd. Thanks for the feedback. Did you use the same process with the vocals on Alfie?
  •  orinoco 3 months ago
Ooh - check out the album 'High Society' as soon as possible. Couple of links:

Thanks muchly for the comment on When Whatever Is The Answer. Harry Nilsson?? I'm a huge Nilsson fan, so that's a major compliment, much appreciated. If only I had a little of Harry's perfect pitch...

The lap steel seemed to be bending more than sliding. That's why I was thinking it might be a pedal steel. Good job on it.

  •  vomvorton 3 months ago
I think the link needs to be Alfie.mp3 with a capital A - I seem to have downloaded it, anyway! listening now...
  •  vomvorton 3 months ago
I'm all plugins this year, most likely - I'm using the free version of Amplitube for all of the electric guitars on my first two songs, at least. I think it sounds pretty nice!
  •  oddbod 3 months ago
thanks for the comment on instamatic - hope you have something up to listen to soon
  •  frenchcricket 3 months ago
How do - I was just wondering if you were about this year, and you are. Eeeexxcellent.
  •  downburst 4 months ago
Hey Stuart! Young Gerry down below me turned me on to Junk Museum and I don't know if I ever emailed you to tell you how much I like it. Especially the vocals! Glorious.
  • gerrybhoy 4 months ago
Hey hey! I'm looking forward to hearing what you are up to, good to hear from you.

Glad you liked my Beatles Birthday remix! I had a lot of fun making it. smile
  •  vomvorton 4 months ago
The monotron is fun for FX noises but not much cop for being in tune with anything. There's a new version coming out with built-in delay so it might be worth waiting for that if you're tempted: http://www.korg.co.uk/products/dance_dj/monotron/dj_monotron_delay.php
  •  vomvorton 4 months ago
Hey Stu! I take it you're back in the house for FAWM 2012, then? Looking forward to hearing some more of those awesome harmonies! Plus a possible Casiocore round 2?
