influences: Harry Chapin, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Tom Kimmel, Amy Carol Webb, Sloan Wainwright, Greg Trafidlo, Joe Jencks, and Kevin Briody for starters. There are plenty, I guess. I get inspired by a lot of my friends, too - some of whom you'll find FAWMing. The more we get together and talk about songwriting, the more inspired I get.

Bio

Sending you all great vibes from Connecticut, USA!!!

Lots of things catch my attention and spark my imagination, particularly unusual news stories or tidbits gleaned from anywhere and everywhere. Ideas, visions, dreams, specs, or stars - nothing is insignificant.

I believe that each person can make a difference in some way, every day, and that folks who take some kind of positive action help shift the world in a better direction. No act of kindness or charity is so small that it doesn't matter to the recipient. As hard as life is on this planet, imagine what it would be like without the countless small actions taken each day by countless caring individuals.

I play acoustic guitar, have something called an Eede Beede dulcimer that I've dabbled around with, and have a djembe and keyboard that I noodle around with but don't really play. I started writing again back in 2003 after a long hiatus. Most of my songs are contemporary folk - some mellow, some funny, with a blues number now and then. Sometimes I write with a friend. I've performed mostly in New York's Hudson Valley and in Connecticut, both on my own and in a trio with friends. I'm interested in finding new online resources to explore, so feel free to share any suggestions you have.

I've been attending songwriter retreats since 2003 - Summersongs (and its cold weather counterpart Wintersongs) and Cedar Run Song Workshops. I've also taken many workshops involving songwriting, the creative process, vocal skills, harmony, performance, etc.

I haven't used my MySpace page in months and don't really know if I'll go back and do anything with it, mostly due to time constraints.

Thanks, Kathy...I really appreciated your support through this process!!!

Congrats on winning FAWM! I never even try to get to 14, but I usually get one or two "keepers" each year. This month, between WS and numerous other events, I've not been able to really create a lot of songs. But I do believe I have enough to make a second CD. I'm going to try and get it done before SS. I'm going to have to learn a bit more about how to create multiple-track recordings using Garage Band, as opposed to the one-take demo-type recordings that I've posted on FAWM.

Hi..I posted a demo for' What An Odd Thing To Say' in case you are interested....
  •  sheilerk 2 months ago
Hi Kathy. Thanks for checking out It Wasn't Me on my page. I've put up an acapella demo, but it just sounds just a tiny bit too familiar for my comfort and I'm looking for someone to tell me that it sounds just like...blank.... A lot of those older country songs sound alike to me, so it may be a blend ... I just don't know. Anyhoo, thank you for checking it out smile

Thanks for stoppin' by ... I wish I had the talent to do a nice video for some of my stuff. I can write, but I'm still really weak at the music and production. Give me another year at this and I'll spin some heads, but right now ... I'm just a little FAWMling ... but I'm learning fast smile
  •  sherrycanary 2 months ago
Thanks for nice comments on It Wasn't Me. It felt so natural to write it, and if I get no other keepers, I'll have this one.
You came up with the idea, right? Good one
  •  smiley 2 months ago
Yay! You're a winner. Congrats on your efforts this year. It is more fun when others get into their writing so much. Can't wait to hear some of these live at Summer Songs.
  •  wolfheart 2 months ago
Guess you are doing some FAWM catch-up! Thanks for the wonderful words on my songs. I feel so good about what I've written this year, and there is definitely a theme running through them...guess I am wrestling with big issues this year. Anyway, I appreciate you listening!

Hi Kathy. He is a couple months from running around but the doctor is happy with his healing and doesn't need to see him for another 5 weeks (and the stitches have been removed). Now he just needs to get well. Best prognosis is 3 months to get back to "normal". We do skype about everyday though so it is kinda nice having that benefit of him being on the mend big_smile

Howdy! No worries on the Wednesday skirmish. I only dropped your name as you had done them before. I couldn't do it at all. No big deal. Anyone can host, but few step up to do it. And you are certainly one of the few. smile

Ooh! you are close to winning! Go! Go! Go!
  •  duaneclancy 3 months ago
Thanks for the good wishes ... I think my little woman is going to do just fine, and she is really enjoying the extra pampering ... I just hope she gets better before she is spoiled beyond the point of recovery (I hate dishes and laundry) smile

Hey, unlock that "Mystic Stranger" -- he or she is yearning to be free!
  •  wyatt 3 months ago
On the Archer and the research---Amen to that. That's one reason I don't get anymore done--- smile It's "SO" easy to do research now, with the internet and the search engines and I follow up one thing and that leads to another and before you know it "another" hour shot smile

Thanks for your feedback...I noticed the flaw in the lyrics after I recorded and posted it...the intent wasn't "all mean things are very big"...but it links to the line before..."big, enormous, astronomical all mean things are very big"....I'll think about how to fix that...kinda funny huh?
  •  cheekmeat 3 months ago
The style of my "Mystic Stranger" was chosen when I, on a whim, grabbed my banjo at 7:56 EST. Thanks for listening!
  •  snoozin 3 months ago
Just thought I'd mentioned that I uploaded a demo for 'Most Days' in case you were interested. Cheers!
  •  skullcrush 3 months ago
Hey, thanks for the comment big_smile That's precisely what I wanted to write about.

Thanks for the comments on my I've Decided. I managed to type in the lyrics, but I make no guarantees on typos at this hour. wink
  •  snoozin 3 months ago
Thanks for your feedback, Kathy....it was one of those things that developed as you wrote it...will be a fun one to sing I am sure!!!
  • rbarreda 3 months ago
Kathy thanks so much for your very kind comment on my song "demons be gone." I love the way you said "It [the song] will tell me what it needs as I make friends with it." What an awesome way to state the concept of getting to know the song, practicing and familiarizing oneself with it to play it better. That really was the perfect way of stating what I needed to hear. Thanks.

Hi Kathy, thanks for the incredible comment! Yours was my first comment this year - such an encouraging way to start FAWM 2012!

I just read the lyrics for your 3 songs so far - they're great. I love songs that really tell a story, and the words clearly mean a lot to you - keep up the good work wink

Thank you for your comment! I never really watched MTV, so now I can only see it as a bunch of lame reality shows. Hmm... I much prefer the older version.

    Hi Kathy,
Looking forward to my 1st FAWM!!!
