Influences: Harry Chapin, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, many contemporary folk/acoustic singer/songwriters. There are plenty, I guess. I get inspired by a lot of my friends, too - some of whom you'll find FAWMing. The more we get together and talk about songwriting, the more inspired I get.
I should update this information for fawm 2017, but some of the basics are still the same, so I'll leave those here for now.
Between a full time/overtime day job and being in the sandwich generation always bouncing between houses, I don't have as much time to write as I used to, but fawm always helps me get a few new things written.
I've written ballads, story songs, blues, rap, reggae, a capella, sweet, sassy and silly. I've co-written with maybe ten or so people, usually with decent results.
I've performed at coffee houses, house concerts, open mic events and a few shows sharing the stage with friends and as part of the trio Three of Hearts, mostly in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area. I've provided vocal support to a few friends on their CD's and after years of encouragement, am in the process of working on my own CD.
My strongest skill is probably lyric writing, followed by singing (or maybe swap those two) and in third place, playing acoustic guitar. I have a djembe that I noodle around with as well as an Eede Beede mini dulcimer that I take out on rare occasions.
Thanks in advance for your feedback and support.
P.S. Don't forget to make a donation to the cause here. There isn't anywhere that you can have this much fun, interact with songwriters from all over the world, get tips on everything from which mic to use to what to cook for dinner. Have fun!!!

Thanks for commenting on 2 of my lyrics.
"You need more time" should be ready soon. Having a few issues with the flow and structure at the moment.
"I better start running" is waiting for vocals. Instrumental demo is up, but I am still waiting for a singing opportunity (the house has to be empty). This song was meant to be a bit of fun. I hope it didn't offend.
Congratulations on hitting Century Club! 😀
Thanks for your feedback on "Every Inch"
hey lovely. Sorry for such a slow reply but just reseen your question. I never heard of travelling exhibition. Which country was it in? I think i would have loved that. I adore a lot of the Beatles and it was my first real influence along with The jam and any topic involving them always fascinates me. My theory is a they were such pioneers in lots of ways that it is hard to pin down a "sound" in particular for them.Anyway i hae wifi so will get back to more of your tunes asap. Woohoo
the friends idea is consistent with what I learned in a course on creative thinking: It's a 2-step process and the steps usually need to happen separately. 1. make something new 2. make it better, more efficient
Thanks for your comment about needing to make friends with our songs. I found that reassuring 😀
Since you expressed interest, I got the lyrics typed up for "Favorite Foods". 😀
Hi! I just added my song for the super skirmish from this morning 😀
Thank you so much for your great comment on my song. I am elighted that you can relate to it! it's what I wanted to happen... tell people to be less shy because it's our loss.
Thank you so much for recommending my song Honey! That was so kind of you! 😀
Kathy, can you please link me to the thread you want removed or changed, if you still need that done? Saves the mods from having to sort through them.
So glad you included the puppies! It gave it a bit of lightheartedness that just rounded out that whole wonderful song!!!
Thanks so much. For your comments on misunderstood comprehension . It's actually about an old relationship I was in and I was just recalling the difficulties . Thank you again lovely
Thank you very much for your feedback on "Swimming up River", it was a struggle to get it written and I wasn't sure how much I liked it but it has grown on me.
I'm glad you held onto the title too!! And that you put together the skirmish! Watching baby hawks learn to fly would be awesome. I've never had the pleasure, though I've gotten to know a lot of different raptors in captivity. 😀
Not so much effortless as I've finally got into the "zone". I should spend till midnight on 28th now just churning music out, but it can't happen--normal life, going out, going away...counting today, I have about 5 days left, and not all available. Skirmishes are hugely useful in wiping out everything but the musical/lyrical idea; so often you get to the end and think "how did that happen?"
Not so late here..8:35pm
We get lots of Hawks in our back garden...
They sit in our birdbath..Coopers Hawks..
They are lovely
LOL, yes, I give lots of comments too, but I have a lot because I was sick and that was all there was to listen to. I just made it up a level in the Century club for commenting, my first year I did 600, I have no idea how, but I did!
<3 Glad if my comments were useful. 😀
You are very welcome Kathy, I love your work. Thank you for your kind note.
Thank you for stopping over and giving me a listen. I enjoy reading your lyric stories. You have a great style I can learn from. Keep on keeping on.
You're the most sweetest, thank you. ♥
Likewise, feel free to call on me while you're getting the pieces reassembled. I've regarded you as a friend since your first comments on @mojo's songs. I have fond memories of bursting into laughter when reading them, thanks for that. 😀
Take good care too, and yes, we'll be in touch.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I love your spin on pennies. I have forgotten about wishing wells and lucky pennies. Such a powerful way to depict hopelessness. I've been missing you this FAWM, but understand you are needed in other areas. Don't forget to take care of you, too.
Kathy, thank you so much for your kind words. Really, thank you : I would hug you if I could.
You didn't miss the news. I'm so sorry that you learned of @mojo's passing in this abrupt way. I thought about creating a thread in the forums, but didn't do - feeling depressed, not knowing what to say and how to say it ; and also, @hoopshank (who was a dear friend) had just passed away, so I thought that some people would maybe find it inappropriate if I created a thread to say my cat had passed away too... So I've simply put the news in his bio.
Someone created this thread recently : http://fawm.org/forums/topic/7005/, but I realize that I should have done some sort of announcement.
Yes, we don't have control over everything, and I've seen many people around me being hardly hit last year too. I try and create healing vibes through music, hoping others will benefit from them too. But I miss catcore more than I can say...
Bed time for me now, but I'll be back to check out your songs. 😀
Hi, thanks for listening to my latest song! Appreciate your compliments. Yeah, you don't hear the word salamander in many songs hahaha
Hi Kathy! I saw your note...thanks for reaching out and commenting. Yes, I thought I'd give FAWM a spin for a second time. I was still working last time and as your notes suggest, that makes finding writing time hard to find. Anyway, I'm "all in" this year and hope to post a lot.
Hey Kathy... thank you so much for your encouragement on my Skirmish tune I Choose Love. I'm looking forward to those rewrites at the end of the month so I can add some more verses and complete the picture. I'm looking forward to reading your lyrics. So glad to know you and let's stay in touch♡♡
Thanks for the nice comment on Super Heroine (Unbeatable)!
I've added another verse and uploaded a rough demo demonstrating how I imagine the melody to go, but am still looking for collab partners to make the final version happen.
I'll definitely let you know if/ when that happens!
Thank you Kathy for your kind comment on Superpowers! I'll drop you a link when I've developed the song 😀
Hey skirmish host! In my post for super skirmish ss3a I included a link to a site that adjusts the time to local times. BUT...my link was customized for the start of my skirmish! So, if you used my post as a template and did not change the link your link will NOT reflect the correct time and you will confuse your skirmishers!!!.
If you used my post as a template you need to either 1) correct the link to the time of your skirmish or 2) provide a link to a general conversion site like this https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
Sorry if my link caused any confusion!!
Thanks for your kind words on my "Addiction" skirmish song. I appreciate the encouragement.
(Karl here hijacking Dan's account).
Thanks for the feedback, on "Sunshine". I normally write nonsense lyrics, but I'm currently pretty unwell, this is tries to reflect that whilst refusing to be negative; however some lines sneak in because they sound good.
Thank you for your comments, Kathy! I love how my song made you feel and I can visualize it perfectly. It's also entirely possible you could hear me do this live - I'm touring the States this summer/fall and I already know I'll be in DC, NJ, Philly, DE.
Hi Kathy, looking forward to this one!
Welcome back once again - looking forward in seeing your work!
Hello! Ready for another fun filled February? 😀
Hey Kathy! Always terrific to see you here! Have a wonderful FAWM!
