I seriously can't recommend George A. Romero's strong enough. Night of the Living Dead also ended up a commentary on race (though it wasn't intended to be) There is a lot going on in Night which is impressive since George always stated he was just trying to make a scary monster flick.

Bette was by far my favorite character on the L Word, the character started with such promise but they really dropped the ball on her. She was in a short lived show where she played a police officer in Chicago, the show was decent but didn't find an audience and was canceled. She was doing a weird Chicago accent which was really distracting since few others on the show had an accent.

  • @wacha  Mar 21

Flashdance was made after I was born (but only by a few years). I LOVE everything about Flashdance, Jennifer Beals is a highly under used actress who other than The L Word has never been given a great vehicle for her talents. I only saw Flashdance for the first time a few years ago but I fell in love with it instantly.

Oh, man I can't recommend George Romero's "of the Dead" series enough:
Night of the Living Dead - Commentary on the Vietnam War
Dawn of the Dead - Commentary on consumerism
Day of the Dead - Commentary on science and the military
Land of the Dead - Commentary on the difference on the 99% and 1%
Diary of the Dead - Commentary on the use of social media and our need to film document everything
Survival of the Dead - Commentary on how we pick sides and dig in rather than working together (admittedly this is the weakest made of all the movies but the story and the message is really good).

You can also look at the role of the women in each movie and see the progressi

  • @monty  Mar 20

Thank you for the feedback on my collab with @tamsnumber4 . She really made it into a worthy song.

  • @wacha  Mar 20

It is my pleasure to listen to and comment on your songs, I'm still working my way through my watch list. By nature I am a solo artist and control freak so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the first collaboration I did last year which really opened me up to many more this year. I enjoy getting work with such talented lyricists and have gotten such great feedback on my collaborations.

I can go on and on about what a great city Pittsburgh is and I defend it with the passion of someone who was raised there. There are so many amazing things to love about the city but the reason we were drawn there initially is George Romero's zombie movies. Pretty much everywhere my wife and I travel to has some sort of tie to a movie either a filming location, a screening or the cemetery where an actor or actress has been buried.

  • @zoom  Mar 20

thank you for your encouraging comments <3
    made me very happy.

  • @wacha  Mar 19

The short answer is Zombies, is what drew us to western PA and Pittsburgh. Had we discovered it earlier we would have moved there a while ago but since we don't have a time machine we'll just get there as soon as we can.

My wife was raised on George A. Romero movies. Night of the Living Dead was filmed in Evans City PA, (about 35-45 minutes outside the city) Dawn of the dead was films in Monroeville (like 15 minutes outside the city) and then Day of the Dead was filmed partially in Wampum, PA (45 minutes outside the city).

For the 45th anniversary of Night of the Living Dead we went to weekend long festival in Evans City and then into Pittsburgh and instantly fell in love with the city. The people are all super nice, the city is clean and beautiful. There is so much nature in the city it doesn't feel like a city. I love that you can be in the city, drive over a mountain and then be in the country. Once my wife started showing me how cheap the rents are and how little you can but a d

Holy Songmaniac, you wrote over a hundred!!! Thank you so much for the comments on my songs, very much appreciated! I will give some of yours a listen. Lovin' the afterglow here

  • @charliecheney  Mar 17

No gigs in Madison because I have vocal cord nodules and have been prescribed vocal rest.

  • @wacha  Mar 16

Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to seek out my music beyond FAWM.

I have a 30 minute set from last year that I have to post. I went to edit it the other day and realized I misplaced the disc (super responsible of me) I'll let you know when that is up.

We are moving to Pittsburgh in the next few years but we will won't be all that close but I may may be close enough to book a show in your neck of the woods.

  • @rainchaser  Mar 14

I'm actually planning on updating the demo this week. The vocals are most likely the ones I need to change about it. The guitars are going to stay unchanged though, mainly because I had a hard time recording them (my guitar doesn't feel right in my hands), and surprisingly have gotten compliments on them by many FAWMers!

I'm still a beginner at songwriting i might say but the main important lesson that I've learned is to cut unnecessary parts from your song. Ask yourself for each repeat or section, "Is this part really necessary?" Try to look for things you can remove, pretty much. Also check out Matt Blick's blog Beatlessongwriting.blogspot.com that's where I got valuable information on writing as a beginner. Check out pretty much anything on his site, but most importantly check out the Tickets-to-write section!

  • @quork  Mar 13

Re. Tom Waits, there's a forum thread where people are listing their favourite songs of his. He's an amazing story teller, but his growl turns some people off, and some of his songs are on the way out side of the scale. Some are absolutely beautiful, though.

  • @wacha  Mar 13

I am looking forward to collaborating again in the future. Your lyrics are great to work with.

  • @rainchaser  Mar 13

Thank you for your compliment and encourgaement on our song. Really appericated the listen! Y'know what's funny? I wasn't even trying to sound like them! though I did took notes of the songwriting tricks that they used and wanted to use for my songs. Because of them, I normally don't bother with intros anymore! Or even outros!!

I start with usually the bone basics whether verse/verse/bridge/verse or verse/chorus. I also don't bother in using verse/chorus anymore in my songs, it seems more refreshing to me. I also most of the time use accidentals in my songs whenever I can. I'm also a fan of delaying the big three popular chord functions (I, IV, V) in my songs, and it has generated tremendous results to my songs. I'm pretty sure that's it but there would be a bunch of tricks I would hear from them that would inspire me to use in my songs.

Actually for this song I wanted to use a contrary motion effect on the la la las, one goes up and the other goes down. Another trick that The Beatles used! But really I just I htought it would sounded cool but unfortunately I didn't have time to do it for the demo. So all you hear is one la la las. But I'm glad you still liked the la la las. Actually speaking of la la las, They came to my head upon repetitive playing of the verse chord progressions.

The quirkiness you hear are from using accidentals particularly from the secondary dominant chord A7. You just got to experiment with accidentals. Accidentals can also change the tone/mood of the music like what you heard at the end of the verse sections which was iv-I. But anyways glad you liked that part of the verse!

We're also glad you liked the lyrics! Sorry for the essay, and I know you probably wouldn't care or know of all the stuff I've typed above, but hey, that's what happens when you're an music enthusiast! You just keep on going on. πŸ˜‰

  • @quork  Mar 13

Thank you for listening to and commenting on my songs. Much appreciated.

  • @wacha  Mar 12

It's my pleasure to read through and listen to your songs. They are always well written and a pleasure to listen to!

  • @hummingbear Mar 10

Thanks for your kind words on "If you Share with a Bear," "Cabin Boy," and "Winter Cabin." I read up a bit about life as a cabin boy. One researcher tried to track a cohort to see how they fared. (They were hard to track.) After two years, a full third of the group was dead or disabled. Harsh reality.

Hi Liz! Here's my take. The guitar part gets kind of sketchy because my fretting fingertips were getting very sore and I could barely squeeze those strings. I could try again at a more calloused date, lol! If you like it well enough, I have a placeholder available so yours can stay as is with its comments intact and in connection with your demo?

  • @mmmmarcus  Mar 3

Thank you so much for the comment on "Killer" and for all your support throughout FAWM! All the love and support on here made my first FAWM a truly amazing experience!

  • @sheilerk  Mar 2

Wow! You get the prize for most prolific songwriter I've come across this Fawm!! I'd have to do math to figure out how many Fawm's worth of songs you've done, so I won't but a big Congratulations on all of the music you've added to the world in just one month!

  • @berni1954  Mar 1

Wow. Thanks also for your fulsome praise on my song "Just one Look in her eyes" - I am blushing here in Catalonia.

  • @berni1954  Mar 1

Thanks for commenting on (and liking) me and Sheila's collaboration "Follow my Footsteps". Much appreciated.

  • @wacha  Mar 1

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my songs.

I loved working on "Join Me In Death", I used to write much daker/angrier songs so it was fun for me to step back into that mode.

I ended working on "New Kid" and then "Things Pile Up" back to back which left me with two songs that don't rhyme in a row. That was challenging for me but enjoyed taking it on.

I plan on revisiting "Lady Jane" now that FAWM is over to replace some of what I consider filler for a some more fact about things Jane has been involved with. I didn't have time to do proper research.

  • @the3queens  Mar 1

ok sounds good. I did put music to it and I'll send it to you . I See that someone did finish it. I hadn't noticed that before. But when I saw the lyrics it just jumped out to me, one of those you finish in 5 minutes.

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 1

Thank you for your awesome sauce praise Liz!!! It’s really been a pleasure! Looking forward to seeing you back at the SongWrite Inn...we have a new Clickbait title challenge to tempt you today...mwahaha 😁

  • @gordon  Mar 1

Hello again Liz. Thanks for the comments on my "future" song. If only it weren't true. This is where I grabbed the story from, https://www.theguardian.com/cities/20...

  • @klaus  Mar 1

Thanks you Liz for your kind, kind comments on Kiss Me and Kill Me. You have really been applying yourself this year now haven't you. Over 900 comments and 132 posts. That is truly amazing. πŸ˜€

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 1

At the request of your fellow troops and myself you have been promoted to GENERAL because you have thrown down the GAUNTLET to the rest of your peers to sharpen their ears! No one quite measures up to the generosity that you have bestowed on others by taking so much of your precious time to listen and comment. 900 thank you’s are comin’ your way!!!

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 1

It's difficult for me to find love lyrics that feel right, so I'm grateful to you in return for your writing of Catherine in Love. It fits with how I wish the world worked.

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 1

Thank you for appreciating He Got No More to Give. I loved the story so much. I have a demo ready of Catherine in Love. It can be posted separately, but I'm also happy to add it to your post, if you like.

  • @oaksnprairie  Mar 1

Hey fellow art history major! I should have known with Kahlo in your user name. Mine's an MA. BA in English....

  • @srcoops Mar 1

Your kind words in regard to Company Man are much appreciated.

  • @johncrossman  Feb 28

Ok my local friend, I brewed up some music for Heavy Rain. Went back to your original thought about a more driving, heavy rain (maybe?) sound. I'm going to start recording pretty soon and see if I can acoustically rock it. πŸ˜€ Do you want to preview it in an email our should I post a link here... what do you think?

  • @siebass  Feb 28

I'm sorry! I had to look it up; it's the curse of the ever-available internet!

  • @goldarrow  Feb 28

Thank you for the comment on Burgers, Fries, and Beer. Very much appreciated.

  • @jamkar  Feb 28

I should have Train music tonight.

  • @wacha  Feb 28

Thank you for your kind words on "Quilted Heart", I struggled to get that demo recorded and the guitar is not where I want it to be but I felt the song needed to be done on the acoustic.

  • @johncrossman  Feb 28

Hiya, yeah, I would like to make some heavy rain (music) but I haven't gotten very far, for example, I haven't record anything. If you have a different collab on the works for it, I would defer. Otherwise, I'll see what cooks today.

  • @jcooper  Feb 28

Ah thanks Liz. You have me tearing up! Thank YOU for your wonderful gift of all of these incredible lyrics. FAWM is a better place for people like you!

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 28

What is there left to say? You are the greatest listener of them all. Your ears are made of gold and your heart is a giant cavernous entity that keeps giving and giving and giving!!! With this badge you are promoted to Major Motivator in the FAWM Army of commenters. You have 800 thank yous from your fellow FAWMers and from me! You broke the mold!!

  • @inciteful  Feb 28

Thanks for your kind words! Oh my goodness what an amazing FAWM you are having. Great job!

  • @coolparadiso  Feb 27

You deserve to be on my list end of story. I reckon you have a hundred anyway! Either way it was just a number to highlight prolific writers. I do agree with you on Gordon and Maddie - that is altogether something else.

  • @robs  Feb 27

I found an old lyric by you called 'Frozen' with some music I composed some years ago (I think Fawm 2016). Is it OK if I finish it? If not no problem.

  • @factorytale Feb 27

Oh that's fine. I think I'll stop now, just finishing my last two songs tomorrow. Thanks for the collaboration this year, it was good for meπŸ™‚

  • @meadows  Feb 27

I'm glad you like it! And I'm totally fine with sharing it.

  • @kerrgriffin Feb 27

Thank you for the compliment on my song!

  • @factorytale Feb 27

Thank you, good lyrics make good songs. πŸ™‚

  • @fiddlerblick80 Feb 27

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that i haven’t forgotten about Freezing Rain. I injured myself this weekend, and I’m gonna try to get it up by Wednesday but if not, I’ll email it to you. Cheers!

  • @cindyrella  Feb 27

Yes, it was 2014. I thought I'd put it on again with those changes.

  • @ebw Feb 27

Thanks for the kind words on I Want You (Gone)! πŸ˜€

  • @cindyrella  Feb 26

Thanks for all the listens! We are having a similar FAWM! πŸ˜€

  • @jamkar  Feb 26

Crazy weekend, but yeah I am moving ahead with music!

  • @wacha  Feb 26

Thank you for the feedback on "Into the Ether", I had a hard time wrapping my head around blending the two songs together but once I got started everything kind of fell into place.

  • @wacha  Feb 26

Thank you for your kind words on "Such A Sin", it was a true challenge to come up with a logical story for that one. I guess I could have gone a little more nonsensical with it and made it a bit easier on myself.

I made an effort to sign up for and participate in as many challenges as I could though I think I bit off a little more than I could chew and with two days left there are some I am not going to have the time to get to.

  • @oaksnprairie  Feb 26

That would probably explain my shoe, although I haven't seen many around town.

  • @oaksnprairie  Feb 26

Don't leave me hanging--what did they do with shoes at your high school? At mine they tied them in pairs and threw them over telephone wires.

  • @erbaer  Feb 26

Wow...108 songs. Amazing! Thanks for the recent comments. I've been skirmishing a bit this weekend.
And I will get our co-write finished today or tomorrow. Thanks for such great writing and I hope you feel better soon.

  • @aprilm  Feb 25

Thanks - for comments on both songs! πŸ˜€ You've been busy here, as usual, I see

  • @wacha  Feb 25

Glad you like my take on "Things Pile Up". I have never heard of "Becks" but will check it out. It looks interesting.

  • @wacha  Feb 25

I just uploaded the demo for "Things Pile Up", hope you like it.

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 25

I am overjoyed that you dig my version of Things Pile Up! I've been fortunate this month to hear other composer's interpretations of lyrics I wrote for, and I look forward to hearing what @wacha does πŸ˜€

  • @wacha  Feb 25

When you get a chance can you make me a collaborator for "Things Pile Up"? I have a demo.

  • @factorytale Feb 25

Great. I have made the song, i just need to record it tomorrow at school

  • @treble  Feb 24

Thanks so much for your kind comments on my skirmish song, "Damage Control." Tough one to write.

  • @jcooper  Feb 24

So glad you like it Liz. Just about done with "I would have" also

  • @aprilm  Feb 24

Thanks. It's kind of like a sad country-blues song. πŸ˜€

  • @fiddlerblick80 Feb 23

Cool, I'll see what I can mess around with this weekend.

Hi again - I put the adapted lyrics plus music on the song page above your original lyrics with the working title 'Know That I Love You' - obvs change it to what you like!

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 23

Yay! I'm so relieved you like it. I wasn't sure if it was too big a departure from what you had originally wanted. Of course you can have a copy of the adapted lyrics/bass line. I would be thrilled to know you're out playing this!

  • @scubed  Feb 23

Thanks so much for your lovely comment on "Chattahoochee"!

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 23

  • @marthie Feb 23

came up with weird and wonderful stuff. It might have sounded quite different if today was a Monday...lol

  • @helenseviltwin  Feb 22

Your "ridiculous" word choices we rather reminiscent of Gilbert and Sullivan

  • @aneil Feb 22

Thx for pooping by again 85 songs wow! Rock on

  • @oaksnprairie  Feb 22

Thanks for letting me know about the other version. It's quite different, and more sophisticated on the instrumentals. I'm just about to post mine!

  • @wacha  Feb 22

I see where you are coming from with being hesitant to be forward with your faith. There has been a few times my knee jerk reaction to someone who is a proud Christian is to be nervous where they stand on other issues. I realized I was being completely ignorant based on a few bad experiences in the past and have made a conscious effort to me more open minded.

On a side note, I wanted to reach out to you with a question I have on "Vivian". Can you either give me your email or shoot me an email at wachacatherine@gmail.com?

  • @sbs2018 Feb 22

Thank you for commenting on my songs and for noticing "3 Drinks Later" and then the "3 texts later" line in "You're Such a Louse." πŸ˜€

  • @factorytale Feb 22

Thank you so much, and I love the lyrics as well, there's music in the words, therefore it was easy to put music to them πŸ™‚

  • @mmmmarcus  Feb 22

Thank you very much for the comment on "Make Peace With Me Darling"! Glad you liked the track! And thank you for all continued support through FAWM.

  • @tawny249 Feb 22

Thanks for the nice comment on my fourth song. I am pretty happy with how the synthesis turned out, too. πŸ˜€

  • @cts  Feb 22

Well now...congratulations on your win and pretty convincingly. I’m going to check out more of your offerings. Things have been a bit of a challenge but it’s a good thing.

  • @aprilm  Feb 21

Thanks! It was a little brainstorm I had while out today doing some errands. It was really cool to do too

  • @phlecksy  Feb 21

Thanks very much @kahlo2013 ! Totally agree that @colgoo did a great vocal there, and a realisation of the tune that I would never have come anywhere near, just as I hoped she would.
