Bio

I'm actually a board certified music therapist (MT-BC) now. I spend a lot of time with kids who have autism, adults who have dementia, and coworkers (fellow therapists) who are inhumanly chipper and extroverted.

I'm extremely introverted, I play the violin, I care a lot about eating healthy, and I can't decide whether I'm a socialist or a libertarian. I dislike the public education system immensely, which isn't the same as a personal attack on hard-working, well-intentioned people who work for it, so don't get defensive.

I have a slight stuffed animal problem.

EDIT: I think my working theme for this year is literary devices. For instance, my first song is in third person, which I've never used in lyrics before. Maybe I'll end up attacking the sonnet, the mythic story, foreshadowing.... we'll see. It's kind of a lose theme but it's generating some ideas for me already, and I like that.

EDIT (2/11/12): A lot of people seem to be having trouble loading my demos from the page, but it seems to work just fine to download them. Techie boyfriend says this means that it's a problem with the FAWM site, so I guess there's nothing I can do... just click "download directly" and it just takes to .wav file of the song or something (see how I sounded like I knew what I was talking about there for a second?).

Thanks for your nice comments on my song. In reading your bio, I can understand how the world can also seem like a mean place to someone like you who works with people whose lives are more difficult than most of us can imagine...

I haven't been able to hear your songs by clicking on the box the normal way. It just spins and spins.

You up for doing a verse and maybe harmonizing or enhancing on a chorus??? Email if you're down.
  • thebschip 6 days ago
Haha if you do dubstep, it's gonna have to be dubstep-core. Nathan would love it.

Thought you'd like to know I did a sestina tonight: *23793. Didn't end up doing in proper iambs, but I think I'm ok with that. Also after making half a go at it I realized that getting the final envoi figured out first was probably the best way to go about it--that and picking fairly flexible words as the ones that would get switched around.

Thanks for inspiring me with your sonnet!

Thanks for taking a listen! Let me know what your schedule is around the D or A2. smile
  •  gslade 1 week ago
That would be great...if you can get over and lay down some good vocal tracks and send them to me to mix into the song.. Of course..lol..I have nothing to send you yet.. so stay tuned.. glad you're open to the idea .. although I'm not sure how to send you anything. If you want, email me your email. My email is on my profile if you're logged in.

I am right at home with melancholy. Love it, I really do. But there's nothing about being the way I am that feeds that feeling. It generally comes from inhabiting a paradox, which I love to do, and that space is fulfilled by melancholy. It's like the tune the paradox hums.

And introversion rocks, almost as much as the violin, so I'm glad to meet you. wink Thanks for your lovely comments on Cloudbreak. I'm happy to know it sang to you.

Also, my bible for lyrical knowledge and theory is Pat Pattison's writing better lyrics. I've attended a few classes of his over the years too. Very worth it--I think you can find videos of some of his classes online (Berklee's website maybe?) I know he has stuff up on Songwork.com too. Not sure how much it costs for access to that site.

Had a feeling if I suggested it you might take it on. I think the only one I've actually run into in my life is Neil Gaiman's "Vampire Sestina." Think I did consider giving one a shot at some point but they seem mindbendingly hard. I don't know if I need any side projects this month but it could be fun to try.

Well, if you need help deciding whether to go down the socialist or libertarian path - choose libertarian (but stay away from the Libertarian party, which is just as bad as the Dems and Repubs). smile
  • aaronnathans 1 week ago
    Many thanks, Emily.
