Bio

Thanks to my incredible collaborators, who sift through these blocks of lyrics and make a great new song from them. It's thrilling for me... and it teaches me things I need. And there's room for more, if you see anything you want to mess with-- do.
And thanks for leaving comments; I don't get much feedback on the music right now IRL. And I'm into critique.
Bio part:
getting older fast, but keeping my childlike simplicity by learning the guitar. slowly.
Note-- every song i write, i write with a melody and lots of music for it in my head. you might not have heard it yet, but it's there. i don't ever ever do just lyrics-- but that doesn't mean you shouldn't put some of these songs to music that you hear for them. just because i wrote it all, doesn't make it the best fit. go for it, let me know, give me writing credit-- i dig that.

haha no problem about the title on "31", it was really the ONLY part of the song I wasn't crazy about. And when that part is just the title, that is a good thing wink
  •  Potato 22 hours ago
25!!! what , when how... your amazing
  •  Hammersmith 1 day ago
Thanks for your comments on my songs -- very kind and written with almost as much care as the songs themselves. I'll be sure to return the favour soon -- I haven't done much listening and commenting yet, but you're on my list.
  • brokentroll 2 days ago
Great lyrics - 'A Gardener of Goth' reminds me of so many people I know. It seems like there isn't that much difference between the people of New York, and the people of North West England after all.
  • brokentroll 2 days ago
I've hopefully sorted out the problem with my mp3s now so you should be able to hear my tracks - silly me had the filefreak settings set to private... You live and learn.
  •  sheilerk 2 days ago
Thanks for the congrats on the gig. I won't be playing, someone else saw my lullaby, with all the magical creatures, and I guess they thought it would go over well at a pagan-fest, lol! So they asked if they could cover it there. Lee did a wonderful melody for it, so I hope they do play it. It would be cool. Congrats to you for pursuing the guitar. I bought one myself and will be starting to learn to play it once I get moved. Too much going on now to be able to concentrate or be consistent.
  • floatinghead 2 days ago
    thanks for the input smile
  •  Jocelyn 2 days ago
Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I'm just avoiding forums of that type. smile And yes, Pagans are awesome!
  •  Invic 3 days ago
I'd read somewhere in the forums recently that you were going to be out and about de-zonging. Thanks for stopping by and thanks so much for your very kind comments!
  • Pink_Triangle 3 days ago
    thanx 4 the comments smile
  •  rombiculus 4 days ago
    Hey, thanks for the comments!
I think I had the link for a couple of my songs screwed up, so thanks for telling me!

Looking forward to checking out your stuff.
  •  Billy Sea 4 days ago
Yes, I fell in love with that version when I first heard it. My goal in songwriting is to write my Hallelujah which is how I describe my perfect song goal. Hadn't heard of the song before Shrek (yes that is just so wrong) and I hadn't heard of Jeff until I saw that video. He had a wonderful voice, full of emotion and (especially on that song) shared his pain with you. Not really sure you can miss someone who passed away before you even knew of them, but I do.
  • angelinapowersuit 4 days ago
Hi heavyhedonist! I'm so new to FAWM that I just discovered the comments on my "home page," including yours! Would love to collab sometime, you've obviously got a much better vocabulary than me, and know how to use it. Perhaps you can help mend some of my lyrics (or finish one of my oh-so-many incomplete tunes). Let's stay in touch!
  •  Timothy Chen Allen 5 days ago
Thanks HH for your comment on "Fully Awake" (http://fawm.org/songs/9175/). That song goes hand in hand with the previous song, "You as I understand you" (http://fawm.org/songs/9171/). In fact, the album is meant to flow from one song to the next, except for "The beauty has a name that I can't tell" (http://fawm.org/songs/6300/)I did as a collab with Karina just because I thought the words were beautiful. Enjoy!
  •  petra777 (XEW) 6 days ago
guess im not the only one who had some discouragement in youth...but i hope to remember yours and several other FAWMers words about jumping in and finally learning that instrument...
  •  1B King 6 days ago
Sorry about the website link. Pages didn't transition when I moved to a real host and I haven't had time to rebuild yet.
  • Lewis Mason 6 days ago
cheers for the crits smile to be quite fair, my FAWM attempt ended up going off on one with events happening in my life, or rather one in particular - which wouldn't take a genius to stab at I suppose - and some songs ended up going off on a too-personal potential tangent. glad you enjoyed, nonetheless! and yeah, recordingwise, my equipment is pretty darn awful and I had no patience... >.<
  •  Paul Milne 6 days ago
Oh, and thanks for the comments on "Slow Decline (etc.)" (http://fawm.org/songs/2424/) and "Ballad of Cornton Vale" (http://fawm.org/songs/4621/). I DO have music for those, just need to record it and get it up.
  •  Paul Milne 6 days ago
Hi HH, thanks for the comment on Too Late to Write a Song http://fawm.org/songs/10563/

I've put up a thread opening it up to a collab as I have no clue whatsover what it should sound like big_smile
  •  John Crossman 6 days ago
Hiya, hh. Gosh, I haven't listened to anything you've done this year, shame on me! I shall though.

Here's a late demo of a song you commented on if you have a chance to stop back. I too was enjoying his odd approach to lyrics, so he gave me one and I did something weird with it. On the plus side, I think I became a member of Toby Vok and The Eggs, so I'm an Egg by virtue of this? I'll put that directly on my resume. wink

Thus far, I don't see what "Raising Your Spirited Child" has to do with conspicuous consumption, but I do see how it would be easy for people to take the "work with your child's temperament" angle too far while ignoring the "you need to be firm and set limits for your child" parts. Every parenting book I've read seems to have its own points that I agree and disagree with, and it comes down to taking what's best for your personality and your kids.'

  •  rashbre 1 week ago
Some how missed your 'french kiss-off' comment. I've darkened the offending generic verse with two or three word changes. Its made quite a difference to the already bleak narrative. Thank you for the suggestion.

I've worked on this on the basis of cranking out the first attempts and hopefully polish a few later.
  •  Errol 1 week ago

  • Roberta 1 week ago
Thanks for your comments! I tried to record a demo for "He Sings", but I can't sing the melody... too high, I wish I was a classically trained singer wink
  •  Rick Amorphis 1 week ago
Oh, I know what you're thinking...but it SHALL be finished.

Music's done. Hard part is for my replacement words to maintain the same high level that you started. I don't want it to look like shakespeare started it and mellencamp finished it. But I do love what I've got so far. Maybe I'll try something drastic like fasting. Hope you'll be checking in through March, of course.
  • betterthanjesus 1 week ago
Hey! I put some lyrics on my eponymous song; more coming in a bit. Check it out!

  •  Jharms 1 week ago
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate it! As far as what's "gospel", I suppose that depends on your definition of the genre...
  •  sheilerk 1 week ago
Thank's for your comments on hello-playin' telephone. Not my genre at all, but then that's a lot of what makes Fawm so fun. I really appreciate it!

  •  Mal 1 week ago
Ahh ha ha ha! Yeah, I got your cheesecake right here. In my pantry. tongue

Okay, I'm old enough to be your nephew, but I've got an ex-girlfriend older than you, so there.
  • memeworrywort 1 week ago
Ok! Cool. I took your advice. I don't think I can write anymore than this. 17 songs is a lot within two weeks!

I've got plenty to work on. I wish success for you.

Hey, thanks for the swell comments~!
  •  1B King 1 week ago
    Congrats on 14!!

Thanks for the comments on Before The Trigger's Pulled. I do agree with your point about religious differences. I was attempting to put the issue into the perspective of challenging one's own faith. I could really go off on a soapbox here, but let's just say that there is no justification for war based on the belief that my god is better than your god.

Anyway, thanks for your assessment. You planted the seed for a tweak on the lyrics.
  •  Mal 1 week ago
You're only seven years older than I am. You're not ancient at all. smile
  •  Mal 1 week ago
Ancient ... pfft. I would ask how much older than me you could be, but I know better than to ask that of a lady, particularly one of your caliber, so I'll just take your word for it.
  •  Steffan Pitzel 1 week ago
Ah! I'm so glad you liked it! Musicing your words is so easy - I swear you secretly put melodies in them.

(ninja-edited so as to not imply that you secrete melodies into your songs.)
  • memeworrywort 1 week ago
I've completed the challenge, somewhat. This is my second year as a Fawmer, and this will be the first time I haven't recorded all of my songs before the official cut off. I just realized, I've got materials for another 6 additional songs.

What do you think? Should I post the partial lyric sketches of the rest of these songs? Or should I devote myself to finishing these song sketches I have crafted? Or should I do both?
  • Dennis Jernberg 1 week ago
I'm working on the lyrics to Song 23 right now, and you'll be the first to know when I'm done. wink

EDIT: The lyrics are now written and posted, chords and all. So now you'll know what I'm singing and an idea of how I'm going to play it. wink
  • itneverhappened 1 week ago
Hey, thanks for the comments. Marinate, that's good. March will be marinating month! I think I'm more into collaborating with musical ideas at the moment or maybe voices without words, oohs and aahs and things like that, I still have a hope of writing my own lyrics to these. They just have to soak in the marinade a bit longer..
  •  Karan 1 week ago
You are welcome! (And lucky me: he's my bandmate! wink )
  •  tie dye hero 1 week ago
hey thanks for your comment on my song! I put up the demo if you are interested in that... I promise its not plans for a terrorist attack, though.
  •  E Agner 1 week ago
Thanks for the input on "Trinket", glad something gets through the murky production.

And yeah, feel free to use the title -- titles are always fair game. I'm going to write "Long and Winding Road" next year, then follow it with "Blitzkrieg Bop".... then maybe tackle "Born to Run"
  •  sherrycanary 1 week ago
HH..if you have ideas on Emotional Divorce, have at it. I will add your name. My idea was about a couple that was not married getting an emotional divorce.
    Cool pic!
  •  Marlene*** 1 week ago
I'm so glad you got some up here since I last wrote! Keep it up--make a home run! And thanks so much for your comments// We finally got the chords for the Apogee in the mail (they broke, evidently) and my son worked with us for an hour today to get it working right! Evidently we had pushed a wrong button. So.. hopefully some demos, but gotta write one more first!
  •  Mal 1 week ago
I stole mine from Ministry, lassie, but I suspect yours is all you. wink
  •  Tim Fatchen 1 week ago
Ok on 31, but I promise you, blues-rock it ain't. Neoclassical tooth-ache. I need to do a little more cleaning up and editing down before it's posted though, and I'm having to cut (at present) the "that girl" verse cos the things runnign to five minutes in its current form. I don't want to mutilate; should we post two versions? Or perhaps just insert square brackets round the bits left out?

Yay! Go for it. I have only 8 posted at the moment so it will be either feast or famine for me - may not all happen in a day, but I'm hoping it at least happens in the next couple of days. Guess we'll see. So here's me lettin' the wolves out to howl a Happy Birthday to AAaaRrroooOOoooo!!! And from me too!
  •  Paul Milne 1 week ago
Hi HH, thanks for the comment on the (as yet unfinished) "Exit Song". It was another tune I was humming on Newington Road, btw (a tune for "Let it go").

Great lyrics for all 4 of the above (at the time of writing) - melons like breasts - phoar! And the kitten song made me laugh out loud ....

Happy birthday, dear Mari. I'm working on our collab right this very second. It might cheer you up...but then, what would you write about?

I really hope you're doing better...we totally need your verbiage.

Thanks very much for your comment on Weyland Yutani. Finally someone who got it. Btw, "Heroine with a Thousand Face-Huggers." is an awesome title. I'm a big fan of Joseph Campbell.

  •  Marlene*** 2 weeks ago
Hey Hedonist--you are so much like me--if you have a plan and something skrews up, you give up altogether, or put it on hold or something. Like..my daughter and i recorded with a company, and didn't like their musical arrangements, and didn't continue with the project for nearly a year--and some songs we never sang again the whole time--hopefully all that will be remedied soon. But squeeze some lemonjuice out of those lemons--even if you don't record it for this fawm at least it will be written---you only got a few days left!! Even on your bio, you could write about being sick, about bi-polar people and behaviour (I was married to one), and the way life bring changes. U CAN DO IT!
  •  Billy Sea 2 weeks ago
Where is your "all about" parody? What about your "Seriously, do I look like Helen or Nancy to you?" song smile There is still plenty of time to knock our 13 more songs, or at least lyrics. Do you have any ideas you've written down during the month, dust them out, add some water and ta da, instant songs smile

Acrostic is a form of poem, where the first letter in every line creates a word if you go down reading only those letters (if that makes any sense, I'm kinda tired right now), sorry, I guess I should go stick that in the liner notes now big_smile
I'll probably go edit that song now that you pointed that out, since I've got some time. Thanks for the tip big_smile
