I'm a singer/double bassist who only writes songs during FAWM it seems. I live in a small falling down house in a cute little rural town in Central Victoria with my patient and talented husband.

FAWM is not going to get much air for me this year (I'm working in the studio on two already written full length albums).
As feared just NO time! I have finished writing a little swing ditty on uke but I just can't get time to record a demo. I did a bit of skirmish writing in the shower and in transit to gigs which resulted in a verse for each prompt (Choose Love and Eccentric) and a friend gave me the song prompt 'orange feathers' which I've been playing with. Stealing a little bit of time before dinner and another rehearsal...
8/2 I GOT ONE!!! Though it nearly drove me mad.
9/2 I'm just about to drop into a black hole for 5 days. Was really hoping to get a 2nd demo finished, but things don't always go to plan...
14/2. wow! I haven't had much time but I've still managed to get to the half way mark right on Feb 14th. I don't think that has ever happened before. Still got to demo 'Choose Love' , 'The Cellar Door' and 'Only Home I Need' but they all have pretty developed audio ideas so this thing is actually looking doable for the first time. I just have to give up on sleeping and doing chores or admin...
I'm proper sick now after two successive weekends of other people album stress and trying to FAWM with every other waking moment. I'm just going to let go for now. If I get better in time I'll make some demos but this week and weekend I have gigs and a music festival where I'm being employed by two different acts to sing harmony as well as play bass so I have to rest my voice til then. Not to mention my flu addled body. So I'm just going to skirmish a few lyrics in the hope that I come up with seeds that can grow in to songs when I'm healthy enough to work on them properly. If I get to 14 this year it will be a hollow victory. 😩😷🤒😢
Am on the road now and still sick with laryngitis and a chest infection but am working on being ok with the idea that I may not get all the demos done before all the listeners disappear in March. I've got so much more written than I expected for such a time restricted FAWM. I'm going to work on completing one more lyric in the next couple of days (I sent one to @zecoop for one of his instrumentals that I hope to be well enough to sing on the weekend.) That will give me at least a win on paper. And a REAL win as it won't include simple bass/harmony overdubs as stats. This I can be okay about. 😀
Last day.
My voice is still tenuous I have ten lyrics that need demos and other bass collabs waiting. I'm only going to have the late afternoon and evening but I'm going to start getting some audio together. No more new songs I think, except an idea I had for one of @petemurphy's lyrics.
Still going though my pace has slowed. This chest infection is refusing to ease so I can't sing much before going into coughing fit territory. On the bright side audio is going up bit by bit and I've agreed to a couple more collabs, this will be my longest FAWM ever, making up for lost time. 😀
15/3. I'm still going! In fact I've hit some kind of gnarly second wind today and set up four more bed tracks. What the hell! Maybe I'll go for a double FAWM in March.....

    No worries!
    Feel better soon! 😀

  • @ladyred Mar 22

  • @zecoop  Mar 21

You... are awesome. I've probably mentioned that before. I am looking forward to the REAL end of your ZeCoop listening, when I get to hear you try out your Josephine on Market Square (or whatever it ends up being called). 😀

  • @reisupstudio  Mar 19

Thank you so much for your comments on Memory Care! Look at all the songs you wrote! Way to go! I watchlisted you so I will take some time to dig in!

  • @ladyred Mar 18

    Hi there!
I wold love to hear the music you have in mind for "Skin" 😀

  • @petemurphy  Mar 15

Yeah, dropbox took away the public folder today, so none of my songs work anymore. I pay for the FAWM hosting every year, but never use it because I'm so used to dropbox. I guess I could switch them all over to the FAWM hosting, but it's a lot of work seeing as there probably aren't too many people left around here.
    Thanks for trying though!

  • @petemurphy  Mar 15

Really cool to see Anais Mitchell on your list of influences. I love her 'Hadestown' album.

  • @cts  Mar 15

Trust me, good friend, many Fawmlings will hear from me before March is done! 😀

  • @tiller2  Mar 15

Thanks Liz, for your kind comment on "Shelly Beach." I ran out of steam on putting it to music but will soon... 😀

  • @zecoop  Mar 15

You... are awesome. Thanks for listening.
And hey look - new songs up there!! 😀

  • @cts  Mar 14

Hi there. Haven't forgotten you. Will be listening and commenting later this week.

  • @downfallroad  Mar 14

Thank you for your kind words on Not The One!

  • @cindyrella  Mar 13

Thanks for your nice comment on my moon song!

  • @fawmerdave Mar 13

You are too talented and too kind.

  • @ladyred Mar 13

Thanks for your feedback on "Every Inch" <3

  • @sherrycanary  Mar 12

    Listen when you can
    Maybe next year a collab.
Nothing like a bass to do real jazz

  • @fawmerdave Mar 12

Absolutely love your lyrics and voice, and it means a lot to receive a compliment from a person with a catalogue like yours. "Sliver of Sunshine" is just sublime. Rhyme scheme in "Lucky Girl" is beautiful. "Lie Down" made me want to picket. You are awesome!

If I can be selfish, would you consider an interpretation of my "Elegy"? Written from my (straight male) perspective, but the song itself means a lot to me, and I feel an extra depth could come from your voice.

  • @mishykatz  Mar 12

Thank you for the listen and comment much appreciated!

  • @mikegtz  Mar 10

Hi Liz, thanks for visiting The Abyss. It is one of my favorites from this FAWM year.

  • @msculli1  Mar 10

    Hi Liz,
I've added you to the song. If you want to email me my address is on my profile page.
    Cheers, Mark.

  • @chandra83  Mar 10

    Thanks for your feedback! <3

  • @msculli1  Mar 9

Hi, @timfatchen asked me to message you about a lyric of mine. I can see your swamped with stuff, but if the Godfather of FAWM requests me to do something, the least I can do is leave you a message. Anyway I'm only going to file it with other unused lyrics, so it's yours to manipulate if you wish.

Thanks for reading it anyway, if your still around that is.

  • @hamiltonpoolhall  Mar 8

Thanks for making the March lap through the rest of my songs! It's always so gratifying to see your feedback on things, given how much I admire your own work. Am attempting to do the same, in the face of all the usual distractions...

  • @leepat  Mar 8

PS I think @lowhum meant adding another instrument or two. let's see what he proposes.
Also, I'd love to hear the melody you're hearing 😀

  • @leepat  Mar 8

Thanks Liz, love it! Worth the wait 😀

  • @oddbod  Mar 8

whoops, misspelled your email address. Try now.
    It was concerning this -

  • @metalfoot  Mar 7

Merlin is the dulcimerish 4-stringed thing in my profile picture! Made by Seagull Guitars here in Canada. 😁

  • @oddbod  Mar 7

    check your email

  • @metalfoot  Mar 7

You are truly amazing. Thanks for your beautiful singing and playing. 😀

  • @metalfoot  Mar 6

Sure! Always room in the corner 😀 PS: Thanks for your forgiveness. I didn't mean to offend you.

  • @metalfoot  Mar 6

No NO NO NO NO!!!!!!! Not my intention at all! Was just saying I'm trying really HARD to write nice parts for my collaborator. *goes and sits in the corner for being a total dweeb and not thinking how his comment might have come across*

  • @metalfoot  Mar 6

Thanks Liz! 😁 I'm trying to be a good working harder at writing better parts to work with my collaborators.

  • @zecoop  Mar 6

Hey, there are still some of yours I didn't listen to! Well, I know I listened to the one with Pete, but apparently I didn't leave a comment. Anyway..... I'll fix that too. 😀

  • @reggiestyte Mar 6

Thanks for "Bird Watchin" with me. Bass power. 😉

  • @petemurphy  Mar 5

You included me in your post on the vocalists thread?
    I'm speechless.
    Thank you.

  • @mattblick  Mar 5

I appreciate the offer but I'm not going to get a chance to do anything in the next 2 weeks at least - with work and building work on my house...I need to find the reset button on my life!

  • @scottlake Mar 3

Maybe somehow I saw your name in years past but not the handle? Anyways, I remember loving some past songs. We just don't get enough double bass or even electric bass centric songs on FAWM. I intended to do one on account of my new 5 string but I haven't dialed in a tone I like at home.

  • @zecoop  Mar 3

OK, so I do feel guilty about the 27, although I guess anything over 14 is icing. But...
18 is the vocal version of 12.
26 is the vocal version of 10
I only played drums on 13
i only played one thing on 23
I only played two things on 19

However, I did play one instrument on 5 other 4-track cassettes not listed on my page. There are over 20 songs from me, so no matter how you slice it, I am really happy. Best FAWM ever for lots of reasons. (and you are one of them) 😀

And you had a great FAWM for dealing with the hand, er, finger, and voice you were given. You shine no matter what. 😀

  • @scottlake Mar 2

Oh, you are Liz! What was your past FAWMer name? I recall loving your stuff from years past.

  • @standup  Mar 2

Cool, I'll be around in March and look forward to hearing more of these songs as they emerge.

  • @piney  Mar 2

I really liked your comment on Suckerfish. I never thought of the song sounding as if one was trying to run in a dream. That heavy feeling. I think that is the perfect description!

  • @piney  Mar 1

    Thank You! Same to you!

  • @petemurphy  Mar 1

Haha, no worries about clogging the soundboard. That's what it's there for 😀
I'm sure I'll pick up on the chords. I mostly play by ear anyway, but the chart will be helpful, thank you 😀
I'll try to get some guitar added as soon as I can, but I'm currently having to catch up on some of the things I've neglected over the past few weeks.
    You are a total badass!

  • @petemurphy  Mar 1

The raw files will be great, thank you Liz. I really love your melody, and the changes you've made work really well. It really is a great honour that you've taken those words and turned them into something so cool.

  • @petemurphy  Mar 1

I'm listening while walking around Tesco, and I think it's incredible. I will comment more when I get home but I really love it. I can add some guitar later. Do you have a wav file you could send to me?

  • @petemurphy  Mar 1

Ok, it might be best to post as a new song, as it might get a bit more interest than just adding it to the current page. I got delayed, and still haven't left for the supermarket, but I'm just leaving now. If you want to post it up then go ahead, but I don't mind doing it if I get back in time (I think we still have a couple of hours left to post new songs...)
    Thanks again, Liz. You're amazing!

  • @petemurphy  Mar 1

Yes! I'm listening now, and I love it. Do you want me to add it to the existing page, or do you want to post it as a new song? I have to go to the supermarket now, but I'm gonna listen to it some more when I get back.
Thank you Liz. Always an honour to work with you.
(The link to the updated lyric doesn't work though)

  • @mattblick  Mar 1

Lost a few photos maybe but I managed to back up all the music files and beatles blog stuff 2 days before it crashed thank god!

  • @beat  Mar 1

  • @metalfoot  Feb 28

Have dropped you a note in return. 😀

  • @leahshoshanah Feb 28

Sounds like we're all sorted then 😀. I was thinking about your version of the song too a little bit after I posted mine, and how I might be impeding your ability to post it. My intuition told me to create a new song post entirely, and it sounds like I was right on with that. I'm wondering if I can play that song at gigs and develop it? Maybe submit it to contests? I'm happy to chat through email about this.

  • @leahshoshanah Feb 27

Hey, I moved the track onto my FAWM because I don't think anyone was listening to it because it wasn't "new". Then, I went back on that idea and tried to put it back on yours because I didn't want things to be confusing. I guess you took me off the song as I was doing that, which is totally fine. Anyway, looks like we sorted it out. Sorry if that was confusing! And thanks for letting me make music from your lyrics 😀.

  • @petemurphy  Feb 26

Yeah, go for it Liz. Feel free to edit, change, alter, add, remove, etc.

  • @leahshoshanah Feb 26

Hey Liz. I just wrote music for "The Brave One". I'm not sure how this whole collab thing works, since I'm new to FAWM, so I didn't want to post the song without checking with you first! I'm happy to send it to you before posting, too.

  • @tjeff  Feb 25

Someone else ended up collabing on those songs, and after looking at your bio above, realize that you probably weren't up to it anyway. Hope you feel better soon. Maybe we can give it a shot another time. All the best!!

  • @tjeff  Feb 24

Hi Liz, sorry I didn't end up writing anything for Starting from Scratch or The Only Home I Need. I just posted a couple of instrumentals that need a lyric & wondering whether you might have any interest?

  • @petemurphy  Feb 23

Surprisingly, I'm not too exhausted. I've still got enough energy to get more done in these last few days My schedule has been kind this month, although I do have a gig on Friday, which is going to take most of the day up for me.

So yeah, I'm happy to collaborate with you any time.
    Congrats on your FAWM win!
I hope your chest thing is improving.

  • @standup  Feb 23

You're prolific! Nice job on hitting 14. Lie Down was especially beautiful, good job on that one.

  • @phlecksy  Feb 22

Thanks very much for the kind remarks on my 'Too much milk' thing! I wish I could say that was me playing that jagged rhythm there but it was really my infinitely more talented DAW, so it's not immodest to say I liked that part too. 😀

  • @andygetch  Feb 22

Hey Liz, am sending positive vibes your way so you get better, let me know if I can help 😀

  • @zecoop  Feb 21

No worries... be well and get yourself well. First and foremost - take care of YOU! 😀

  • @brrrse  Feb 21

gentle hugs and home-made chicken soup for you. Hope you recover quickly and feel stronger soon!

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 21

Thanks for your encouraging comments and support on my various superskirmish ramblings this past weekend. It was great fun playing with you and the other folks for all those hours. Have a great week.

  • @tjeff  Feb 21

Ah, didn't realize you had music for them already - no worries! I am just impressed with everything you've posted. If you come up with a spare lyric I would be interested in giving it a try.

  • @vaticanvamps14 Feb 21

Thank you for your kind comment 😀

  • @ampersandman  Feb 21

Hope you're better soon then! Just saw your FB post about your injured finger – too bad! Here's to keeping on!

  • @tjeff  Feb 20

Hi Liz! Wondering if you are open to someone (me!) attempting to put music to one of your lyrics? Wanting to do a collaboration this FAWM if possible. Plz let me know. And thx so much for the watch list.

  • @jamkar  Feb 20

Thank you. Thank you very much.!

  • @repsurepa Feb 20

Thank you so much! ( :

  • @piney  Feb 20

    Thank you very much!

  • @ampersandman  Feb 20

    Hello Liz,
I already put a first version of the song up.
I'd be grateful if you had a listen and let me know if you want to add some double bass and vocals, Thank you!

  • @njihe Feb 20

Thanks for comment and watchlisting me 😀 I really enjoy your quirky songwriting, I hope you find the time to record this year!

  • @squeakmouse73 Feb 20

Thank you, Liz, for the recommend. I did not expect that. Big hugs from a fan here in Indiana.

  • @davewermers  Feb 20

Thanks for your nice comments on my song "Barbed Wire".

  • @metalfoot  Feb 20

Depends how seriously I'm taking myself, how quickly a song comes together. With "Enjoy the Earth" I spent about 5 minutes putting down ranty lyrics, 30 seconds selecting an instrument (it was *this close* to being an electric guitar track) and then about 2 minutes doing a rough play through before the recording phase. I knew it was a spit-take of a song so didn't dwell on it too much.

  • @squeakmouse73 Feb 19

Keep an eye out. I did a novel thing and recorded the demo almost an hour after writing the skirmish. LOL

  • @mattblick  Feb 19

Yes - sofa sounds good! I'm trying to lose weight and do a marathon by the end of the year and that's time and brain consuming. I have a free day tomorrow to write but probably will do everything else I should have done last week instead...

  • @repsurepa Feb 19

Thank you so much! It's good to be back!
I haven't composed anything with a piano in a looooong time, but somehow apparently a piano composition just wanted to come out!
    There's a new one now, I you wanna take a listen ( :

  • @mattblick  Feb 19

Thanks for the files Liz much appreciated - esp as you're snow under and ill - I'll put em up and together when I've received a couple more I'm still waiting for. I'm dragging myself through my own existential swamp and trying to keep writing....

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 19

So glad you liked my Jazz piece It Wasn't Me. Wish I had you on bass.
Means a lot that you liked it. Was hoping that was the one you chose

  • @crisp1  Feb 18

Thanks for checking out The Bride Wore Black. I hope you are having a great FAWM!

  • @engebretsen  Feb 17

Hi! And txh for comments on Dream catcher. Nice to hear from you here again. You did an awesome work for the album last year. Thank you so much. I will go through your songs at this years fawm very, very soon. So you will here from me again.

  • @ampersandman  Feb 16

Hello Liz, I am currently working on a song that could use female vocals for a duet and a double bass, and I know you are perfect for both. It's basically written. I see that you have very little time, so I'm asking first if you even consider listening to it or turn my demand down right away. No problem if so, I can fully understand it. But it'd be nice if you let me know. Thanks in advance!

  • @zecoop  Feb 16

You................. are amazing. Still no pressure. Seriously! But I will tell you that I really really appreciate you even considering it. I'm very honored. 😀

  • @brownium  Feb 15

Hey Liz - this is just a quick pass at it, but this is general idea of what i was hearing for Lie Down:

  • @piney  Feb 14

    Thank you very much!

  • @adforperu  Feb 2017

And thanks to you too for the listens, and yes I'd love to collab one year for sure. Oh ok, I was waaaay wide of the mark there, ha!

  • @thelowestbitter Feb 2017

Thanks so much! At work at the moment sneakily checking FAWM but looking forward to hearing them

  • @leepat  Feb 2017

Hi Liz, thanks for all the love on "Mango girl". You've made me realize it's in fact a transsexual grrl power manifesto in disguise (kidding). Would you like to sing it though? That'd be a treat. Also, I'm sending you a jazz waltz your double bass would sound great on. Let me know.

  • @thelowestbitter Feb 2017

Okay thanks! Look forward to hearing them 🙂

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2017

KC5 is a talented lyricist who has also become a dear friend. I love her stuff and I love putting music to it, as well. Thanks for stopping in at Tilbury's Tavern. Hope you got a pint to enjoy!

  • @yam655  Feb 2017

Congratulations on hitting Century Club! 😀

  • @julesbf  Feb 2017

Thanks Liz for the comment on Whirls, Swirls and head pressure. It is a tough area to be writing in and I am always very nervous about each new piece I put out as i don't want to make a situation worse but think it warrants applying an artistic eye to it.

  • @petemurphy  Feb 2017

Well if you feel inspired to add anything at a later date, whether it's bass or anything else, then go ahead.
I really like the song. Thank you again for working with me.
    Here's a wav version...

  • @petemurphy  Feb 2017

Also, do you want me to send you the original wav file? It will be higher quality than the mp3

  • @petemurphy  Feb 2017

Yep! Do whatever you want, Liz. I'm really happy we could do something together.
Sounds like you've had a good night! Hope it was fun.

  • @donna  Feb 2017

You're welcome. 😀 I'm pleased you enjoyed the skirmish prompt. 😉

  • @petemurphy  Feb 2017

Mornin' Liz! (although I guess it's evening/night over your way).
I just woke up and recorded this. The phrasing is a bit dodgy in places, as I was still kinda figuring out the melody, but I hope you like it.

  • @mattblick  Feb 2017

definitely the chorus and anything else you fancy or have time and energy to try. I don't have a masterplan I'm just throwing it out there and will make something out of what you and everyone else can give me.

  • @thelowestbitter Feb 2017

    Hey, that's great! Thanks 😊
