Eric Distad 21

Andover USA   Feb 2004

Artist Bio

Influences:   A lot of you wonderful Fawmers!

Eric Distad is a singer/songwriter from Minnesota. By day, he is a mild-mannered IT Professional, but by night he is a not-quite-as-mild-mannered musician...

This is his FOURTEENTH FAWM...

Again this year, we are publishing our Geeky tracks as collabs with our band account @thefaithfulsidekicks.

Looking for the Geeky combined talents of Eric and Jen - Head over to @thefaithfulsidekicks page. 😀

BTW - The Faithful Sidekicks have a new-ish CD available for your geek rock pleasure. Check it out here:

This year will be very interesting - since last year I've changed jobs and the new one is shaping up to be very busy during Feb (though less crazy stressful than last year). On top of health issues and some other commitments, hiting my songwriting targets is going to be a stretch... but that's what FAWM is for! 😀

Collabs are welcome as always!

Lets rock!

**Update 2/20**
Due to some unforeseen circumstances (death in the family), FAWM has basically stalled out for me. I will try to wrap up some of the tracks I have in process, but I think my commenting rate/collab/posting/song creation is going to slow more than usual. We'll see how it goes.

Isn't this the store you were telling me about? They are gointg out of business.

  • @quadrivium  Mar 14

Thank you, Eric! I hadn't logged in here in a couple of weeks so I just your kind comment. Are you going to be at FKO this year?

  • @famouspatrick  Mar 14

No suggestions coming in for the FOP, so how about the Applebee's in Roseville -1893 W Highway 36, Roseville, MN 55113; maybe at 11:30 AM this Saturday for the FOP?

  • @cynthiawolff  Mar 8

    Hello Eric,
thank you so much is now gone...

  • @cynthiawolff  Mar 8

thanks for your response i.e.. cartoon appearing on my entire Fawm page in iPad...
I just did as you said and it is still there...

  • @robinh  Mar 2

Thanks for the info on your acoustic guitar recording setup, I think you've totally nailed a great sound. I ended up being all electric this FAWM, but wished I could have found time for some acoustic songs this year. Next time I get to it, I'll try your method and see how it sounds for me.

  • @famouspatrick  Mar 1

I hope your FAWM was great! I left a post in the Midwest: Twin Cities forum, to see if anybody wants to get together for an After-FAWM party. Reply there if you want to do it!

  • @dasbinky  Mar 1

Thanks for the comment spree, good sir. 😀

Re: some of your notes re: adding more parts (harmonies, strings, etc.), I've GENERALLY been fighting that impulse this year. Traditionally I'd add stuff just because I could, but I've been trying for a less cluttered soundscape this time around. In part because mixing live drums adds more of a headache to the process. 😀

For 50/90, I'll get back to more 20 track multi-layered monstrosities!

  • @sapient  Feb 26

I wouldn't normally pimp a song of mine, but I thought you might appreciate one that is *heavily* inspired by classic Dr Who...

  • @dasbinky  Feb 24

Mood is a thing for cattle, and loveplay.

    That is all.

  • @dasbinky  Feb 20

Not a drop D, that's a legit baritone guitar, tuned BEADF#B. You should get one of these things, it's lovely and seems like it would fit right into your comfort zone.

  • @debs  Feb 18

Eric! I'm so happy that you mentioned the timing on "The Road Is So Long, Lord"! I'm usually so unadventurous with timing because I don't know how to be more awesome, so I was so happy when I realized I'd written something in a shifting signature.

  • @dasbinky  Feb 17

Dude, congrats and nice feast! Good pace today, I look forward to catching up on your stuff!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 17

Thank you for your kind, and thorough, words on "Join the Dust," addressing the concerns in the liner notes, @ericdistad!

  • @popmythology  Feb 17

Eric! Thank you for all those comments, wow! I think I also forgot to thank you for answering my FAWM-related question before. So thank you for that too!!

  • @metalfoot  Feb 16

Did you suffer any cognitive dissonance from listening to Helga and The Road is So Long in such short order? 😉 Thanks for listening! And if you have any site debugging tests needing to be set to music, you know who to call...

  • @acromie Feb 16

Thank you for your comment on Down at the solstice ball! I really appreciate it.

  • @burrsettles  Feb 16

Hey man, thanks for the bday wishes! some of us @deliciouspastries are aiming to get together this weekend to flesh out some jams, so hopefully that proves fruitful! Thanks for holding down the fort!! 😀

  • @insaneian Feb 2017

The Space Oddity room? I know Beth and company there! Always a great time in there...hope to run into you this year!

  • @tspoon  Feb 2017

this pink is hurting my eyes.............

  • @dasbinky  Feb 2017

I did a grunged up tune about Duncan Idaho a few years ago, but it required some fairly detailed knowledge of books 4 thru 6, which eliminates a huge part of any target audience. And I mumbled a lot in the lyrics.

Not my best tune. May any Dune song you try be better. I think Distad means Kwisatz Haderach in Fremen.

  • @dasbinky  Feb 2017

+1 for the Litany Against Pink.

In related news, few things have left me as happy this year as word that Denis Villeneuve is rebooting Dune.

The pink must awaken! Or something.

  • @insaneian Feb 2017

Just checked you your Bandcamp guys are in MN? Ever been to Marscon in Bloomington? The largest comedy music geek convention concert series is held there every year, really seems like it would be up your alley. You should check it out! We've got Judy Tenuda this year! (and I'm performing too, lol)

  • @robinh  Feb 2017

Kraken Not Stirred has been wanting to get a Tron-themed compilation geek album together for quite a while; we did a song for it, but he's still wanting to get more songs. So if you're inspired...

  • @robinh  Feb 2017

re: 2001, I think nowadays almost everybody thinks it's too slow paced; nobody ever wants to watch it with me 😀

And yes, a collab would be awesome, though I never know how to begin. I typically do best when handed a sheet of lyrics, and I'd suggest writing the deepest Tim Chandler and/or C-64 tribute from the very bottom of your geeky heart, and I'll do the music. But if you have other ideas, let me know 😀

  • @robinh  Feb 2017

Yes, totally that Tim Chandler - cool! I'm thinking we need to start a new brotherhood of Commodore 64-loving Tim Chandler fans. Including you, there are three of us now. @metalfoot and I started our long friendship with the same two ingredients 😀

  • @arthurrossi Feb 2017

Hey Eric! Thanks so much for your fantastic comment! 😀

  • @insaneian Feb 2017

Hi again, Eric! Just thought you might want to know, my song now has a demo!

  • @korrigan Feb 2017

Hey Eric - thank you very much for your kind and encouraging comments to my songs! Looks that thanks to you and FAWM I might have new own songs to sing at the next FilkCONtinental! 😀

  • @popmythology  Feb 2017

Your comments are always so encouraging to this newbie amateur, Eric, thank you!

  • @sacraficialglam  Feb 2017

  • @velvetrevolutions Feb 2017

Always looking forward to hear another set of 14,15,16 or 32 songs from the Master! RAWK!!! you'll bring it. 😀

  • @popmythology  Feb 2017

Thank you, Eric! Always grateful for this, the Happiest Place on Earth. (I considered doing a Starbucks Red Cup II this year because, believe it or not, there was another fit of outrage last holiday season over the holiday cup, lol).

  • @kamen Feb 2017

    Han Solo for president!
Had so much fun at FilkContinental!
    Let's do this.

  • @airbagtester  Jan 2017

LOL "Han Solo For President" !!! 😁 If only! I'd have jumped on the Solo/'Bacca ticket for sure. He may be a smuggler for hire but at least he's got morals! 😉

  • @airbagtester  Jan 2017

I wholeheartedly look forward to whatever cleverness you find the time to write and record, good sir!

  • @tspoon  Jan 2017

Thanks for the welcome E. I look forward to doing a bit more this year. I actually sprung for file hosting for the first time in a few years 😀
I still don't think i'll have the time for 14 but I'm gonna try for 7-10ish. Let me know if you are up for a collab?
I always like what you do with my lyrics.

  • @nancyrost  Jan 2017

FOURTEENTH FAWM! That's a very special anniversary indeed.

  • @famouspatrick  Jan 2017

Thanks for the welcome. I understand about being swamped on your "grown up" job. Just 3 days ago, my day job went from "all-consuming" to *part time* (24 hrs per week), so I'm looking forward to being able to listen and comment on a lot more songs this year. (as well as completing my 14!).

  • @dasbinky  Jan 2017

    Faithful Sidekick Dude.
    Your guitar tone is woody.
    That's not a dick joke.

That was a haiku. You're welcome.

  • @natrin Jan 2017

    Hi again, happy FAWM!

  • @schnowd Jan 2017

Hey Eric, looking forward to whatever inspired tunes you have to offer this year. Hope you can visit Shantytown on at least one or two songs.
