Echo Voodoo

progress: 16 winner!
location: Manitoba, Canada
website: www.echovoodoo.com/
influences: Depeche Mode, Roxette, BB King, John Lee Hooker, Dizzy Gillespie, the 80s. I don't sound like any of them, but they informed (created?) my musical sensibilities.

Bio

This is my first FAWM, and I'm having a blast thus far. I vary my music between synth/electropop, ukulele pop, and electronic instrumentals, mainly. Occasionally they merge and I get uketronica.

As someone suggested in the forums, I've marked my favourites of this batch with an asterisk, so if you're wanting to just check out a couple, those are the ones I recommend.

I'm also posting the songs to http://www.soundclick.com/echovoodoofawm2010 - that should remain as the archive of my original demo postings even when this site is closed for the season.

Thanks for listening.

Update: I finished! Hurray! I'm very pleased to have met the challenge. The discussions in the forums and comments on people's soundboards have given me a bunch of ideas that I hope to incorporate into my songwriting practice.

I guess I'll mostly be listening and commenting for the rest of this month and March.

Thank you for the kind comment on "forgetful I can be".
  • dunwich 4 days ago
Cheers for the feedback, but trust me the hard-pan was not my idea...to get the multiple guitar tracks I had to plug my guitar straight into the computer which for this particular cable means only getting a mono signal. Ugh. Can't wait to buy a microphone!
  • jamestoffee 6 days ago
Thanks for the listen and feedback on "BFF"
  •  Rob Cooke - Boy@Heart 2 weeks ago
Thanks for the comment. Congrats on a successulf FAWM too. I've got a lot of folks to listen to over the next month or so!
  • compromiseline 2 weeks ago
    Thanks for the comment!

Really feeling your synthpop stuff, by the way.
  •  Mike Debenham 2 weeks ago
You're right, EV. I crossed the line and I apologise. Making fun of cat videos on the internet is like walking into a church and saying 'So, this God guy... a bit naff, eh?'
  •  mike skliar 2 weeks ago
thanks- your comment on my soundboard about your political song was well put, and believe me, I feel that way many times as well! Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff when i have the time
  • Sean_T_Wright 2 weeks ago
thanks for the cool comments man. Much appreciated.
  • Floatingman 3 weeks ago
Thanks for listening to my song. Though I think your voice would be better suited for that song, because I was going for a Nick Cave sort of thing. Keep doing that Dewey ...or LC whichever.
  • sueawesome 3 weeks ago
Thanks for commenting on the demo friendof did of my lyrics. I'll have to come by and listen to your stuff when I get a minute to breathe. Happy fawming!

Thanks for the reviews Echo! I really don't care what you think HAHA!
In all seriousness, I may do a separate collection and put a "full band" sound to some of the songs. The raw flavor of a minimalistic approach is the whole idea behind this current FAWM collection. It's fun! smile

oh geez. You just *had* to participate and ruin everything didn't you. *sigh* fine...i'll listen and comment on your songs.

    sincerely,

Thanks for the comment on "Beware the Age of the Machine" -- I'm just now back online. We're dead center in that snow storm you may be seeing on the news ... I estimate 33" fell here. The power has been out since 3:30 and just came back on.

Welcome to FAWM, glad to have you here smile
There is totally nothing to lose if your fall short, and everything to gain. At first, writing 14 songs in a month sounds incredibly hard, until you do it one time. smile

Who can resist Uke Reggae? Not me.

Cool breathy organ on the track...like one of those 60's Emenee Co. toy
organs that ran on a crappy under-sized fan. Always one bad note right
    out of the box.

    Have a great FAWM.
