Artist Bio

Canadian living in the Netherlands. Freelance copy editor by day, lyricist by night. OK...by day as well. πŸ˜‰

Eighth year FAWMing. It's in my blood now. πŸ˜‰
Love the madness, the camaraderie, the creativity... πŸ˜€

MOST of all I love playing in this huge cybernet sandbox, where everybody shrieks and giggles and throws the sand and their songwritery toys all around and nobody gets hurt. πŸ˜€

This year I'll be writing the last of the lyrics for a composer/co-writer who plans to produce an album in 2017, so I'm depending on FAWM to inspire something that can be polished up later and be decent enough for the album. For this reason, some of my lyrics may not be available for collaboration.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
DISCLAIMER: Any lyric I post is always a ROUGH draft, to be revised/rewritten later. Therefore, collaboration songs during FAWM should NOT be considered official joint works, or posted OUTSIDE of the FAWM site. Unless otherwise agreed - and I AM open to post-FAWM possibilities πŸ˜€ - contributions will be individually owned. This means that each party can use his/her own creative contribution for other purposes once FAWM is over.
-----------------------------------------------
Please ALWAYS ask first if you'd like to collaborate. There's a possibility a collaboration is already being arranged with someone else. I generally try to mention this in my liner notes, but - in the frenzy that is FAWM - I occasionally forget.

Thanks Donna for listening to my new demo of "Horns Of A Dilemma". Glad you liked it. Thanks for the good prompt in the skirmish.

  • @gvgeis Mar 7

Hi Donna! Thanks ever for your lovely feedback on Little Star. Yes, Stephen's words and Erin's singing thereof are one heck of a combination. Glad you especially like the final section; the writing actually began there, with the minor mode arrangement of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".

And the fox says hi. 😁

  • @kathym  Mar 6

Thank you for the comment on The Encore Song. I will probably change it up a little bit, but am glad to have participated and wanted to end things on a positive note. I'm involved with several series where I attend and perform regularly, so I thought it might be nice to put this together as a message of appreciation. πŸ˜€

  • @jwhanberry  Mar 4

Thanks for your kind comments on "Breakaway". So glad you liked it. It's been fun skirmishing with you and the gang. Thanks for your good hosting.

  • @fineexcuses Mar 3

Cheers for the comment on 'Polly Is', most kind. Going to have a dig into your tracks now!

  • @jamkar  Feb 28

Thank you Donna. I agree, those lyrics didn't make much sense when I wrote them. It was only after re-reading that I decided to post. πŸ˜€

  • @lazykat  Feb 28

Thanks so much for your comment πŸ˜€

  • @tiller2  Feb 28

Thanks, Donna, for your kind comments on the whooping crane--wouldn't I love being a (non-starving) bard! Wen gave me the idea because he is doing a show on that endangered bird; but I actually did the words, music, and performance. Thanks! 😁

  • @tiller2  Feb 27

hi Donna, I've put up a demo of my whooping crane lyric, if you would like to listen πŸ˜€ http://fawm.org/songs/71572/

  • @siebass  Feb 27

Thank you for the comment and the post in the "recommended songs" thread! Looking forward to March commenting month.

  • @tiller2  Feb 27

Thanks, Donna, I'm glad "I Need Sleep" made you smile. πŸ˜€ That's a win for me

  • @susyblue  Feb 26

Hi Donna, thank-you and apologies, I've been away and not checking email/fawm. Time is running out! but will do my best πŸ˜€

  • @ryako  Feb 26

Thanks for the comment! I also like saloon songs. I've always loved the saloon girl outfits, too. (Ruffles!) How awesome for your friend to get a piano piece in there! I would die and go to heaven if that happened to me.

  • @yam655  Feb 26

(Belated) Congratulations on hitting Century Club! πŸ˜€

  • @ajna1960  Feb 26

Responded to your email @donna πŸ˜€

  • @hamiltonpoolhall  Feb 25

Thanks Donna! I'm glad my first skirmish was one you hosted too. πŸ˜€ I'll be skirmishing more ASAP!

  • @tjeff  Feb 25

Hi Donna - thanks for the welcome and the comments on "Wolf Creek Pass" and "Long Way Down"! Much appreciated!

  • @spunky4455 Feb 24

Hi, Donna, thanks for your compliments on my song. It was something I felt I needed to do. Actually, I think the whole planet is going to feel pain before this is over. I'm going to SE Asia soon, so that maple leaf sounds like a smart idea.

  • @wacha Feb 24

Thank you for your kind words on "Jaguar". I take a lot of inspiration from movies and shows I watch. I have a slew of songs about Joan Crawford and Joan Crawford movies, they always feel too obviously about the movie to me but when I play them I have gotten, "Yeah, I wouldn't have guessed that was about Joan Crawford." It's nice to know the connect on more than one level.

  • @quork  Feb 24

Donna, thank you for your wonderful comment. That raven landed on the hood of my car and tried (successfully) to cadge a bite of my burger. The building behind it is actually a sculpture called Raven House, fortuitously in the shot.

Here's hoping you're far too busy fawming to be SAD this year.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 23

It's all about having fun! 😁

  • @tiller2  Feb 23

Thanks, donna, for validating the woman's pov in my "Keeping It Real" song. Only recently have I tried risking such imaginative shifts but they have worked out okay.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 23

Of course the choice was always mine. That's what made "But Real" so meta-FAWM. I skirmished about not skirmishing. LOL

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 23

And your interpretation was exactly what I was feeling and struggle with..it seems like something I recognize and need to take ownership of prioritizing repair ....rather than chasing distractions that are sometimes easier... so yeah the song is close to the bone for me too..

  • @mishykatz  Feb 22

Thanks for the feedback on February rain πŸ˜€ look at you go!

  • @crisp1  Feb 22

You're too nice, Donna. Thanks for the comment on In the Quiet. Lori really found the heart of the lyrics and set them to the perfect music. If you get a chance, listen to All the Dark Distance, too.

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 21

Thanks for listening and commenting on "Forbidden Blade". Glad you liked it. Have a great week.

  • @dawn1 Feb 20

Thanks Donna for taking the time to read and give feedback on 'Blade' I am going to try to set it to music today and have no idea what to do! I'll just make noises till it comes to something πŸ˜€ Have a good day!

  • @nuerdetjuligen  Feb 19

You are so sweet Donna! Thanks for reading my rough draft lyrics. The demo's up if you're bored sometime and want to listen, but no need/hurry/rush. It's going to get retooled in March and maybe completely different.

AND I love your 'sandbox' analogy for FAWM. it is so nice to have a forum to 'play' and create in where nobody gets hurt. Thanks for being such a positive part of the sandbox! you're awesome.

  • @dutch1967 Feb 17

And thanks so much for listening to and commenting on Moddergat.

  • @dutch1967 Feb 17

    Thanks Donna! Dankjewel!
I had it easy. With lyrics as clear and well organised as Tasha's there's no real fight in fitting chord changes to the words. Just a matter of finding the right key and letting the melody flow. Easy as pie.

  • @tiller2  Feb 16

thank you for your lovely comments about Whooping Crane, means a lot coming from you! πŸ˜€

  • @thetau  Feb 16

Already a winner... More Proof that a FAWM Classic songwriter, can produce them in MASS.
    Russ πŸ˜€

  • @petemurphy  Feb 16

Ignore my last message. I revisited the page, and it seemed to load ok πŸ˜€

  • @petemurphy  Feb 16

Hello Donna, I just saw you'd uploaded the song, but when I visit the page it says "You have not provided a valid SoundCloud URL. Learn more about using SoundCloud players."
I also saw a few minutes ago that Georgie has been having problems with Soundcloud links not working for her songs either.
If there's an issue with Soundcloud, I could always host it from my Dropbox account (or set up the FAWM file hosting. I pay for it every year, but never use it).

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 15

    Cool! Glad you liked it!

  • @redlady8029 Feb 15

    Hi

I found you. Here from jpfolks. I worked the graveyard shift 12 am -8 am and i just got home. Going to sleep but will read and comment on your songs when I wake later this evening. You were my incentive to join fawn this year. Thank you so much.

  • @marthie Feb 13

"Ek wil Loop" Thank you for the feedback. I am Canadian and South African...

Hey Donna, thanks for your nice comment - and for starting that inspiring challenge. You've already made it to fourteen - congratulations! I'll surely come back later to check out your songs. (I've fallen behind a bit with commenting anyway and still have a few songs to write...) πŸ˜€

  • @dragondreams  Feb 12

    Thank you again, Donna. 😊

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 11

Hey Donna, thanks for such a great skirmish prompt!

  • @thelowestbitter Feb 11

Thanks for your comment, lyrics are up now. Just wanted to make sure I posted it before the time was up even if I hadn't filled out the liner notes or lyrics sections πŸ˜€

  • @billwhite51 Feb 10

Donna, thank you for commenting on my song alosn this earthly path i someties go. I try to keep this song soft and pretty like donovan bt my dark side keeps breaking through.

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 10

Thank you so much for your nice comments

  • @visiblydistorted Feb 10

Thanks for following my train of thought in "Catch a Wave", I just let my imagination wander wherever it wanted to go and it was really like a little cartoon movie playing in my head as I wrote. So I'm glad I got enough of the imagery across πŸ˜€

  • @billwhite51 Feb 8

Donna, thank you for listening to and leaving such nice comments on Witches of the Northern Shore. I am happy that you enjoyed the song.

  • @spunky4455 Feb 8

Thanks a lot for your comments! Glad you were able to listen. Yes, great lyrics made it easy to turn into a song.

  • @mishykatz  Feb 8

Thank you for the review of Its All About the Color, much appreciated, I love learning to craft songs, you are a wonderful example to learn from and this is an amazing learning experience!

  • @cluebird66 Feb 8

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 7

Thanks for listening to my song "Underneath The Tree", I appreciate it.

  • @spinhead  Feb 7

So glad to hear that the song keeps the feeling of the book. It's one I'm especially proud of.

  • @ryako  Feb 7

Thanks for the comment, donna! Hope you're doing well. Look at all the songs you've written!

  • @famouspatrick  Feb 6

Thanks for the kind words on my "Roots" song. I admit that sometimes, when I'm not writing actual songs, I practice writing metaphors. This one was kind of loose, but not a lot of time to refine it in a skirmish.

  • @snoozin  Feb 4

I'm happy you liked my song, "Roots", Donna. Thank you for your kind words.

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 4

Merci Beaucoup Donna for commenting on my French song.
I clearly need to find a conversation group, but it was fun

  • @igg  Feb 4

Thanks Donna....walking through the dark valley ...trying to keep my eyes open..!

  • @aprilm Feb 3

Thank you for your kind words on What We Love! I was drawn to Kristi's lyrics and I am honoured to have the opportunity to interpret them with my addition of music and vocals

  • @cblack  Feb 3

Frenzy and determination are the goddess's middle names! (Not really.) So I got that bit right, at least. The anxiety part is part of the song I wasn't entirely happy with, and which I couldn't quite figure out how to bend to my will... It was supposed to be more along the lines of, "Faces danger head on, but doesn't take it too seriously." So a positive form of anxiety, maybe? 😝

Anyway, thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it.

  • @kevinemmrich  Feb 2

Hey donna, we are back at it again. Have you seen wyatt around? I don't see any activity from him here or at JPF. I am getting worried.

  • @dragondreams  Feb 2

Aww. Thank you, Donna. I had a huge grin all the time I was playing that ode. πŸ˜€

  • @cts  Feb 2

Thanks for swinging by, Donna. When you get a moment, I've put up a temporary hosting link until I get home tonight. Feel free to take a listen if you're so inclined...

  • @jnadon Feb 2
