Dear John is the musical alter-ego of Dirk-Jan Smit. A 26 year old singer-songwriter living in the Capital Amsterdam. In the beginning of 2007 DJ got infected by two musical friends from his hometown, an hour north of Amsterdam. They started a cover-band called Rosewood, which has achieved quite a name regionally.

The inspiration from surfer-dudes such as Jack Johnson, Matt Costa and G.Love, led DJ to teach himself how to play the guitar at the end of summer 2007. Later on Jason Mraz and Amos Lee were of great influence on his own songs, which he started to write as of 2009.

His music is best described as positive and uplifting. Combining story-telling with some insightful and personal messages. Rhythm and melody play a great role as well.
