Bio

Well, last year went off-balance in so many ways. Having survived a break-up, changing jobs, repairing my flat and setting up a new band, I'm ready for 2012.

So this will be my third FAWM. The first I hit 14, the second I hit three, and this year I'm going to do my 14 again. I just know it.

FAWM changed the way I write - I'm much looser, more experimental and I don't suffer from block the way I used to. Now I iterate through my ideas, thinking of lyrics while on the train, or rejigging chords as I record. I'm happier and I think my writing has improved because of it.

Four of the six songs on my band's EP, Loose Little Lies, came from FAWM. I'm really proud of them, so go and listen!

I've got a tune that I think would work well with your voice. It needs lyrics and of course vocals. If interested email my gmail it's on my profile
  • thisisgabe 3 months ago
If you don't dig that idea, just post up some random lyrics and I'll work with them!

I often use Sendspace or something similar for sharing, and mostly work in 44khz 24bit, 48 is fine though of course! If you want to .zip/.rar the files it's fine smile Look forward to hearing your idea!

I'm always thinking about very strange ideas for songs! Can you write lyrics to a song about a mother-fly's love for her baby maggots?
  •  solarrainuk 3 months ago
Mixing our styles would be very interesting! Let's try it! I can imagine something along the lines of Peter Gabriel's older stuff perhaps? Do you want to come up with the basics, for me to build on? Your songwriting skills are way above mine!

Hey! We're on the colab list together! Let's start.

David, thanks for asking me. That's a wonderful compliment on my homerecording mixing/mastering skills. I have to dissapoint you and I have to admit I don't feel comfortable working on other peoples songs. I have tried in the past, but it just doesn't work. After working on my own stuff for ten years I can give others some advice but you won't find me behind the mixing table. While I'm typing this I'm listening to the West Avenue album on bandcamp and I really think Marc Rothera and Steve Kitch did a great job. Listening to Loose Little Lies makes me wonder why you're asking the "simple tune homerecorder" smile Take care and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comment on "This is my First song". The one guitar is a straight forward guitar with pinky-controlled volume swells. I then added delay, chorus and a touch of reverb via plugins.

Hey, howdy. I thought maybe I had a casualty on the random collab thread and I knew I might screw it up for one of the 34 pairs (despite wracking my brain on randomness). I pulled thisisgabe as a match for your name and when he signed up, he said, "I wanna do it! i do music." So, hm... if that's a mistake, I guess I was confused by that response and I apologize. I'll poke him and see if he's still in.

So of course, you don't have to do it, there's no obligation and full refunds are available, but I thought I'd let you know. Anyway, happy fawming!

Cheers for the nice comment on Sihlouettes. Actually I'm a bit like you, I really like to make choruses and usually struggle with the rest! Great compliment regarding Drive, I also love that film and now that you mentioned it..that track would work well in some scenes smile

Thanks for the comment on Cardboard Condos. Much appreciated. I can't take credit for the piano part though. Entirely generated by Band-In-A-Box.

Glad to see you back! Let's get rocking.

"Loose little lies" sounds pretty good. I need to get into bandcamp -- OK I need to put together a few decently mixed tunes first! Maybe by the end of March I'll be on there. Good stuff. Have a good FAWM!
