Artist Bio

Influences:   Sandy Denny, Roy Harper, Jose Gonzales, Joanna Newsom, Joni Mitchell

Over the years I’ve played bass in cover bands and function bands, writing the occasional song on the keyboard. I started writing original material to perform solo after being given a guitar ten years ago. I learned to improvise on piano a bit, and played piano accordion with The Flowing. Currently I sing and play tenor recorder in Wheels. I am looking forward to the FAWM challenge, I have never layered tracks up before! I have a collection of instruments and plan to use all of them!

Thanks so much Didi for dropping by and listening to my music. I know there are still a bunch of us who are trying to listen to as much as we can before we all kind of fade away till next year. Wishing you all the best 😮)

  • @j3jeffmason5 Mar 5

Thanks for listening to Goin' South
That song had a couple of lines and has been hanging around on a looper for seven years. On the looper I had over dubbed a harmonica and a little lead guitar.
Finally got around to it. You can do a lot with two chords.

    Woops...I meant Didi

  • @sunnymae  Mar 4

Hi Dawn... thank you so much for listening to my tunes and for all of your lovely comments. I'm so glad you enjoyed them and as most of us are doing now I'm finally getting around to listening to so much amazing music. I'm looking forward to hearing yours. I hope you felt free, let it rip and used all of your instruments. 😮)

This is my third win on FAWM and in all honesty I never noticed the little cup next to my name!
I thought maybe I had maybe we won some new music gear but my wife informed me that if I had I would have to get rid of some gear I already had!

  • @j3jeffmason5 Mar 3

I hear echoes of June Tabor in your voice or maybe it's Sandy Denny.
I also like Roy Harper too.

  • @j3jeffmason5 Mar 3

Thanks for the kind words. Yes Richard Thompson is a big influence. I went to his Frets and Refrains camp in the Catskills 2013
I saw him play two weeks ago.
    So that's a treasured compliment
Will check out more of your work.
What win are you talking about?
    Jeff

    Hiya Didi,
Any progress on the Blues song...
If you can't find time, just let me know...
and I'll record some music for it...just to get something out there..
    No worries either way...xxc

  • @seb Feb 23

  • @seb Feb 23

hi Didi, are you game on for our random collab?

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 21

Thanks for your encouraging comments and support on my various superskirmish ramblings this past weekend. It was great fun playing with you and the other folks for all those hours. Have a great week.

  • @vaticanvamps14 Feb 21

Thanks for your kind comment 😀

  • @musicsongwriter Feb 20

Fl studio is former fruity: https://www.image-line.com/flstudio/
I only tried Cakewalk and fl studio, most of the time I just record my acoustic piano on audacity.

  • @musicsongwriter Feb 20

Hope you'll get your string fixed. I'm using my keyboard with 8 keys not working... But fl studio helps somehow...

  • @musicsongwriter Feb 20

Hi Didi, you are very welcome. You've created amazing compositions, can't believe it's your first fawm. You are doing a great job. Looking forward to stopping again when I have the chance.
    Nadia

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 20

Hey again - thanks for listening to A few more of my songs & your amazing comments! Poco Loco sounds good - that was the venue I've played before in Chatham. 😀 I've found you on FB & liked your page (we have lots of Kent musos in common! Do you know Mel & Roger Mean?) Just let me know later down the line re details. Hubby and I perform as a duo x

  • @squeakmouse73 Feb 20

Thank you, lovely, for all your encouragements lately.

  • @hazeyjohnii  Feb 20

Thank you very much for your comment on The Gift - I finished it: http://fawm.org/songs/72538/

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 19

Hey again - I've made it down as far as Chatham to gig and that's it! Thanks for listening to my SoundCloud - that's awesome x

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 18

Hey Didi! A fellow Kent girl yay! I have a feeling you're already on my Facebook from the open mic/music scene. Thanks for listening and commenting on Loser Lover. Alanis and Tori are two of my heroes so not surprised I was channelling them!

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 17

I know you will kill the blues lyric...
you go girl and be your ole bad self...
    xxc

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 17

    Hi Didi,
I posted some blues lyrics on my page...
If you like them and want do something with them,
go ahead...If not that is cool too...
Do your own thing...then record...then post..
    cheers and have fun

  • @andygetch  Feb 17

Hi Didi! Let me know how I can help with skirmish hosting 😀

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 17

    will do...maybe tomorrow, California time...

    xxc

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 17

    do you like the blues..?
I am cooking one up but my playing isn;t strong enough on
    guitar...
would you like to go for something like that?
What I could do is post them as lyrics only on my site..
you take those lyrics and do whatever you want with them...
i don't care, just have fun...you do a recording and then post it as a collab... sound like an idea?

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 16

do you want to do some kind of collab?
i could do lyrics...because I am not great in the production
    department...Give it some thought...

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 16

Sure wish I had a girlfriend like you to play with...

    Xxc

  • @lissielou79 Feb 12

Thank you for my feedback much appreciated.

  • @oddbod  Feb 9

Dickens+Bagpipes, that made me chuckle. I'm sure bagpipers (if that's the correct term) will take any gig that's offered especially when there's a captured audience

  • @aprilm Feb 9

I appreciate your comments on You Were the One! It was a fun challenge and certainly bring back some memories for me

  • @yam655  Feb 7

    There's a "Demo Updated" thread: http://fawm.org/forums/topic/6820/

Some of it depends on how thoroughly the song changes. If it's a new verse or additional track, it's an updated demo. If you radically change the melody or lyrics or structure, that kind of qualifies as a whole different song. (More like "inspired by this skirmish song".) As always, the artist is the final say as to what they feel is best.

I've known people to comment on sound boards of people who previously commented on a song when there's a new or updated demo, too. With a little copy/paste that doesn't take too long.

There are other people that just hold back and keep the revisions of songs until the later release of the track on an album. It can free them to focus on the broader picture for FAWM, instead of getting side-tracked by trying to make a single song perfect. (Some people are easily side-tracked and this division line can be particularly helpful if they've failed to hit 14 in the past.)

  • @chipwithrow  Feb 7

Hi! Thanks for listening. Regarding my mantra song - I've done a few of those. My profile pic is a drawing of me singing one.
I've played the harmonium for yoga classes, too - I teach yoga at my daughter's school, and I let the kids in the club try it yesterday. It's made in India by Bina.
A couple years ago for the 50/90 challenge, I recorded an album of instrumental music that I use occasionally as background music for the yoga classes I teach.

  • @degausser  Feb 6

Haha, I usually just think the person giving the compliment is just completely out of their mind!

  • @kathym  Feb 5

😀 thanks for the feedback on super

  • @ihelen  Feb 5

Thank you for your kind comments on my Souper song. Whenever I hear others playing (including your song), I get inspired to try new things and learn myself. 😀

  • @degausser  Feb 5

Thankyou. 😀 I wasn't sure if you'd listened or not. That's all last year's FAWM stuff up there and maybe some other random rubbish. Not really sure what to say when someone compliments me but have watchlisted you now. 😀

  • @degausser  Feb 5

Hi Didi, thanks for the nice message and for 'liking' all my Soundcloud songs! I had a listen to your friend. His music is fantastic, has the sadness of Elliott Smith - one of my all time favourite artists. Sorry to hear that he's no longer with us.

  • @aprilm Feb 5

Thanks for your comment on What We Love! It was a fun collab!
