Artist Bio

Influences:   Queen, Foxy Shazam, Rufus Wainwright, Hem, The Civil Wars, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and music from the turn of the century, the 10's, 20's, 30's & 40's.

I was born at a very young age but with a soul as old as the dirt & twice as dusty.

I'm writing for my new band specifically in mind...The Revivaleers. We're a quasi old-timey spiritualesque big tent revival steamfolk band. Think The Civil Wars meets Tom Waits & O Brother Where Art Thou soundrack.

Post FAWM addendum:
I just finished my 9th FAWM and though I have yet to 'win' a FAWM in all of those 9 years, I got more songs this year than I ever have. This was also the first year I got to collaborate with other artists and I was over the moon to have been able to collaborate with some of my favorites here.

Thanks for multiple comments and the #tag suggestion. Love the idea and sound of your newest project. If you end up needed slide or tenor guitar on any of the final recordings, feel free to hit me up. My contacts are all on my page.

  • @temily  Mar 12

Thanks for your comment! Yes I did actually change his name haha. James was the only name I could think of to rhyme with insane tongue

  • @wander  Mar 8

Thanks for your kind comment on 'Two rotten apples'.

  • @bradbrubaker  Mar 7

Thanks for your comment on my duet "These Damsels Be Fierce!!" I wanted to let you know that he demo has been updated with @lizchids singing the female parts...not that I don't think I make a charming woman, haha. *9695

  • @musicsongwriter Mar 2

Thank you very much for listening and commenting on my collaboration with Ellen and Wolf smile

  • @shannonwinnonah Feb 27

Love loving you face. It much like my father. But you kind words different than him. Thank

  • @celaphane  Feb 26

You're amazing. You're fantastic. Holy wow...

  • @oddbod  Feb 26

Hi there brother, I've just posted it up. I hope you like it. I EQed some of the high end out of the vocals and took out some of the harmony...but I left most of it in wink

  • @oddbod  Feb 26

Daniel, I'm just waking early and reading your message. Excellent, can't wait to listen my friend, though it'll be a little while before I finish off mixing in your vocals, but it'll done as soon as I'm able and I'll post it up. shame about the harmonica but I have recorded another solo part which will slot in nicely, so no problem.

  • @sunclipse  Feb 24

Daniel, it's been like a week since you've posted a new tune. I mean I'm not complaining. But yes, I'm stalking your soundboard/page. smile
My ears are open and waiting......

  • @oddbod  Feb 22

Monday will be fine Daniel. It's unlikely I'll be starting any further songs now as I won't have the time to complete them. I have a couple others to finish off.

  • @cloudboy  Feb 22

Thank you for the 'slithery' comment! I like! Will be listening to more sooooooon!

  • @oddbod  Feb 22

PS those two other lyrics are excellent. I'd love to do something with them but whether I have time now is another matter. Such a shame Fawm only has another week to run.

BTW, I'm not sure the word shnozzle works, so change it to nose, if you can.

  • @oddbod  Feb 22

Daniel, that vocal style is just brilliant. I love that tune of yours - got to be my favourite this year.
If you want to add some harmonica or anything, please do.

  • @lauralu  Feb 22

thanks! got the inspiration from my best friend's MFA Thesis show of the same name (bury me in the garden). i am familiar with hem, but only have one album. i should get more!

  • @ballyhoot Feb 22

Thanks for your comments on my song, Wonder Why!

  • @spiritdancer  Feb 22

Your band style sounds great! Thank you for your incredibly generous praise for Road to Damascus. So glad you liked it!

  • @oddbod  Feb 21

PS - that harmonica solo stuff is just filler, there'll be a better solo to come smile

  • @oddbod  Feb 21

Okay, cheers Daniel I've now got access.
I've uploaded lyrics and 2 mp3s (one with a sketch vocal for a guide and the other without vocals).
This is not fully formed yet but its the right key, tempo, structure, etc. I'm continuing to add stuff.
Have a listen and see if you fancy doing some vocals. No problem if you think it's not for you.
What I've done vocally is just an outline - change anything you think would work better (including any lyrics) .

  • @sunclipse  Feb 21

Thanks for the listen and comment.

  • @oddbod  Feb 21

Hi Daniel, you may have to use a different email - try this - timconway at onetel dot com

  • @oddbod  Feb 21

Hey Daniel, I've got something to send you. What's the best way to do this? Have you got a Dropbox account?

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 21

Oh so nice to hear that this one resonated with a son....there is something so very very special about mothers and sons....can't show enough love to my guys...and I think they don't recognize that my re-direction of some of their behavior is out of love...maybe someday!

  • @hamiltonpoolhall  Feb 21

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! Just from your bio and your song tags I can't wait to plough through what's here! (Trying to get a couple more things posted and then I'll be back for a good look around.)

  • @klaus  Feb 21

I listened all of these songs. My favourites are… well, I was going to write “ the two last ones” but then when I looked at the song list… I mean they are all good! Can’t pick just one. You got high standards, dear sir, and you have certainly got a style of your own. Great stuff. ( and thanks for comments )

You could use some sun though. You look a bit pale, sir.

  • @jamesstaubes  Feb 21

dude I love the flaming lips! thanks for the comments!!!

  • @johnstaples  Feb 20

Wow Daniel! Thank you so much for listening to Saw A Man and for your kind and generous comments!! You truly made my day! And you are right about time being such a precious commodity...it really is all we have to give. Thank you for giving me some of yours!!

P.S. I did a quick listen to I Am Afraid and Either God Sent You or the Devil Did. These are really dynamite songs. I'll be back later to leave a comment on each of them.

  • @oddbod  Feb 19

PS - sorry I haven't got around to commenting on your tunes yet, I'm doing some catching up - I'll get around to you soon.

  • @oddbod  Feb 19

Hi Daniel, no I didn't get anything via Facebook from you - that's why I left the previous message about going off the radar- how strange.
Can you email them? - thepannacottaarmy at gmail dot com

  • @oddbod  Feb 19

Daniel, you appear to have vanished off my radar...if you still want to collab, I have a fully written tune that might suit your vocals. It needs recording so it's not ready yet but let me know if you're still interested at all

  • @celaphane  Feb 19

I'm officially proclaiming myself to be The Revivaleers #1 Fan.

  • @lauralu  Feb 19

    big_smile would love to. ideas?

    lauramielen(at)gmail(dot)com.

  • @dunwich Feb 18

Yep, big Lovecraft fan here. But no, the song wasn't intentionally about any of his works...I think I've just absorbed his style. And thanks! I wasn't sure if writing a song in 30 minutes on an instrument I've never played seriously was going to work...guess it did!

  • @jamesstaubes  Feb 18

Thanks for the comments and checking out the tunes!

  • @lauralu  Feb 18

smile thanks for inspiring me to try out a new genre!

  • @wander  Feb 17

Thank you for your comment. Love the cello and dulcimer addition by brownium too...

  • @jnatiw Feb 17

Thanks, Daniel! The song isn't 100 years old, but the writer... wink

  • @debs  Feb 17

Hey Daniel! I was reading on Wyatt's song and I heard something cool smile I know you claimed the collab, but if you haven't gotten too far, would you be interested in working on it together? I'd love to get my gospel on! If so, drop me your email and I'll send you what I'm hearing.

  • @auditasum Feb 16

Thanks for your comment. "Little Nika" is partially based on Mongolian folk music, which is why it may sound like a mix between Russian folk music and something farther east. big_smile

  • @gordon  Feb 16

Have amended it so it now reads big-tent-revival. Thanks for the tip.

  • @lauralu  Feb 16

thanks so much for your kind comments! i really dig your style, so it means a lot!

  • @gordon  Feb 15

Hi Daniel, thanks so much for your comments on Cows. I hope you managed to check out the pics, they're really lovely.

  • @thrownfree Feb 15

Daniel, thanks for the comments on "Come to the River of Life." I would love to add a kick drum, if I had one. I can bang on a trash can, but that's close as I get.

I checked out your blog (thinking I'd find out more about your Revivaleers project) and instead ran into your art and design work. Great stuff there.

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 14

DUDE!!! Look at you!! Already rockin' FIVE TUNES!! You're setting a sweet pace for past outputs, if I'm correct...and I think I am. smile

  • @downburst  Feb 14

Thanks for the comment on Bombing Run. As for mokey-rock--I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. smile

  • @samsorrow  Feb 14

Thanks for your kind comment. I really like your work.

  • @brisk Feb 14

Sorry - I forgot that I could respond to your very nice comments here. So thanks for your very nice comments! Means a lot, especially when your stuff sounds so polished, exuberant, fun. Consider yourself watched. I am hoping at the weekend I can record some vocal parts for the song without them (and redo the hideous made-up-on-the-spot vocal for Can't Please an Angel).

  • @debs  Feb 13

Standing in line to collaborate with which one of us? big_smile I'm totally down to sing something if you need a female vocalist, I've never gotten my gospel on during FAWM before. Really glad you liked the Elvish. It stopped me in my tracks as well as soon as I heard Errol sing the demo.

  • @thrownfree Feb 12

Thanks for the kind words. I listened through all your songs earlier this afternoon and was just blown away. I'm keeping watch for what I hope is the Revivaleers world tour (come to Seattle).

  • @caravanray  Feb 12

Thanks for your comments - I was worried the song may not carry to a non-Australian audience.
It was written for the title at this weeks competition at Songfight: http://www.songfight.org

  • @downburst  Feb 11

Thanks for the comment on my song with Donna. Since you were the inspiration for the whole gospel thing, it's much appreciated. Donna is great, isn't she?

  • @theresaj  Feb 11

Thanks for the very nice comments!

  • @auditasum Feb 10

Hey, thanks for your recent comments. smile

  • @jnatiw Feb 10

Thanks, Daniel! Short little tune, but the fiddle tunes are saving my behind this year! Good luck!

  • @jacobmorales  Feb 8

@danieljacob I'm actually surprised at the quality of that pinhole mic can achieve. I got mice and close when I was recording a sample. Actually I picked up the laptop and brought it to my face and sang. It was a very strange experience but it saved me from having to take out my mic.

  • @donna  Feb 8

    Thanks, Daniel. smile

  • @gordon  Feb 8

Hi Daniel, as discussed, I've had a go. It's not quite right, but I'll definitely try again when I have more time. (Next time with hand claps!)

  • @zecoop  Feb 8

Thanks a ton for checking out 'Sloth'... I really appreciated your comment. A slow intense song like that can be interpretted so many way, lol. looking forward to checking out your music today - looks very interesting! smile

  • @donna  Feb 8

Hi Daniel, a big thanks for your kind comment on "Liquid Crystal Ladies". smile

Is there a way I can contact you? Email addresses don't yet show up here on the site.

  • @oddbod  Feb 8

Hi Daniel, either to my email - this should be visible to logged in Fawmers apparently - or FB

  • @jacobmorales  Feb 7

Dude, I just pinhole mic'd it.

  • @auditasum Feb 7

Thanks so much. smile Know that you are watchlisted as well. I'm swiftly becoming a tent revival fan.

  • @charliecheney  Feb 7

Hey, I've gravitated to just about every forum post and comment you've posted this year (that I've seen anyway), and I really like the songs you've posted so far. I don't know what all this means really, just glad you're here I think. So, thanks for that.

  • @jdschramm Feb 7

Thanks for the comments and recommendation Daniel!

  • @temily  Feb 7

Thanks Daniel for your comment on my song "Is There Anybody Out There?" What you said is very true, I think, unfortunately. Thanks for listening!

  • @andybalham Feb 7

Hi Daniel. Thanks for your great comment on 'MK, MK'. You're absolutely right, the chorus would scan so much better without that pesky 'but' in there. As it is, it is tripping up that whole line. Thanks for such constructive feedback. If I play it live, I shall make the appropriate adjustment.

  • @evinwolverton Feb 7

I'd love to supply vocals, guitar (acoustic or electric), piano, anything on a song of yours this month. Let me know if you find a place for it? evinwolverton@gmail.com

  • @evinwolverton Feb 7

    Thanks, Daniel!

  • @jacobmorales  Feb 6

Thanks @danieljacob for the comments on "us." Hey, when I put chords together, It's all feeling. I know nothing about music theory/theories though I've got my own : ) Hey if you're down with do a collab this FAWM, I'm all in! Let me know.

  • @oddbod  Feb 4

so, collab - how were you thinking about going about it?
    you got any lyrics maybe?

  • @wurzelfrau Feb 2

Thank you for the very nice comment. You made me smile smile

  • @hannahoreilly Feb 2

Vera Hall is my utter idol! nobody knows her here! lets do a collab, love your stuff!

  • @jacobmorales  Feb 2

Thanks @danieljacob The idea came for "Zilla" quickly. Usually I write the music first and that prompts me to think what is this song trying to say. When it started sounding creepy and hopeful, I knew it had to be a ballad about rescue; and so it was.

  • @radioovermoscow  Jan 31

Thanks! I hope it's the released version you're listening to, not the demo with the wayward note in the second verse...

  • @oddbod  Jan 31

Hey Daniel, thanks for your nice message. “Tom Waits & O Brother Where Art Thou” sounds quite intriguing to me so a collab could be cool.
Have you heard any Pokey LaFarge by any chance? Might be up your street.

  • @max  Jan 31

    big_smile Happy FAWMing 2013!

  • @jacobmorales  Jan 31

    Shazaam.
