Artist Bio

Influences:   Influences is the wrong word because it somehow implies, to me anyway, that I aspire to be like them. In my dreams! But I'm especially inspired by the lyrics of Dylan, Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Adam Duritz, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Sarah McLachlan, and Natalie Merchant

This was my first FAWM. An unbelievable experience. So much inspiring talent here. I enjoyed all my collaborations and hope to work with the same collaborators and other musicians next time around. If you see a lyric you like and want to put it to music, please send me an email. Thanks!--Doug Haberman

I know this is basically too late - I apologize for taking so long - but I finally got a vocal take for Tickets to the Apocalypse that works, and posted it.

  • @jwhanberry  Mar 17

Thanks for listening to "Surf Sailor". Glad you liked it. In high school I played in a surf band out of Pasadena. It was like a freebie when "surf" came up in a skirmish.

  • @adnama17  Mar 17

Hi! Thanks for all your wonderful comments. I really appreciate it! Who knows why one song reminds us of another, eh? Maybe it was the same chords or the melody was similar. Who knows!? Music is a crazy, bipolar mistress, is she not?

  • @barbara  Mar 17

Thanks for the specifics. I'll go check that one out when I get the chance. But I know how that subliminal song triggering can be; it could even be from just one chord change or harmony leap, and for a fleeting second you are thrown into a different song reality. I'm always up for hearing about them. (smiley face)

  • @barbara  Mar 17

Not mad at all, just fascinated. And also curious to learn from you: what elements do you think is driving the Oasis comparison?

  • @barbara  Mar 15

Hi, Doug. Thank you for commenting on. 'Surrender' the other day. I appreciate you taking the time to listen. Congratulations on this, your first FAWM, and a win at that! I will come back to check out some of your work, and may I suggest joining 50/90 this summer for even more collaboration opportunities?
    (Cool album art, too!!)

  • @billwhite51 Mar 8

what is your email address. ill send song tomorrow/

  • @wacha Mar 7

Thanks for your comment on "Come Together". I find that even on my happy songs I tend to have at least a line or two that end up negative and I every so often I force myself out of that to some pretty decent results.

  • @ampersandman  Mar 7

Thank you for your nice words on "Charlie". Cheers!

  • @squeakmouse73 Mar 7

Thank you for the encouragement on Liz's song.

  • @resonut123  Mar 6

Thanks for the comment on "Bustin' the Big C", unfortunately it is autobiographical but I am planning on playing it this year in the Fall for the Detroit Blues Challenge. Last 2 years I took 2nd place, so maybe the 3rd times the charm!!!

  • @billwhite51 Mar 6

Thanks for the follow up. You couldnt have giv me a better complement. I dont know if yoy have heard any of the other songs here, but I wrote them with the intention of a concept album in which the songs, though in different styles, interlock thematically and as narrative. there are even inter song references. so if you have heard some of the other songs and believe this, then I have succeeded in what I set out to do. And even if you base this on just one song, at least you caught the vibe Thanks again for your encouraging thoughts.

  • @billwhite51 Mar 6

Hi Doug, Thanks for listening to and commenting on Old Road Sycamore Street. Astral Weeks, huh? That album is far byound what I aspire to Maybe you just mean sycamore street and cypress avenue, That kind of makes sense. But Astral Weeks has been in my blood for many decades. In facr, the last band I had featured Toni Marcus, the violin player on Vans Into the Music album and touring member from 79 to 80, And when met during a jam on the entire Astral Weeks album for the opening of my mothers used bookstore. It was her favorite album and Toni was her friend and I had been away from home for a long time so it was her dream to hear us riffing on the album together. But this is probably too much info for a comment response. Yourve got some cool lyrics here. I will have t loook into them more deeply.

  • @metalfoot  Mar 6

Thanks for stopping by to listen to Off You Go! @jaegerin writes fun lyrics and I always feel honoured to try to add some music to them.

  • @spinhead  Mar 4

Dylan and Duritz and right up the road from the Stone Brewing Co. in San Marcos, eh? I lived in Imperial Beach a long long time, and Escondido for a short time.

Glad you liked "The Note." Hard to make that one feel right. Glad it came out as well as it did.

  • @ajna1960  Mar 4

Ha @ me having a busy February..... yes ๐Ÿ˜€ I put everything else on hold, including housework etc, and just FAWMed ๐Ÿ˜€ I do the same thing every single FAWM ๐Ÿ˜€ It's like a cult ๐Ÿ˜‰
Now I am paying for it and having to spring clean my house lol

  • @hoppiern  Mar 4

Thanks so much for your kind comments on my "Caretaking" song - what you said really means a lot to me! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • @ajna1960  Mar 4

Welcome to FAWM (sorry I'm a tad late with this) from one lyricist to another ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @snoozin  Mar 1

Hi and thank you very much for your kind feedback about 'Lost in the Rain'. I certainly would encourage you to give skirmishes a try. They may not be for everyone but they have lead me to broaden my horizons as a songwriter. Given a random title and an hour to write puts you in a position to really focus and explore sideways approaches to the prompt. I love them!

  • @quillwraith  Mar 1

Okay, I did the music last night, so it counts as far as I'm concerned. If you edit me in as a collaborator on Tickets to the Apocalypse I'll upload the demo, and I can sing it in a few days when my voice is back.

  • @sueawesome Feb 28

Yes he does have a brother (@siege). I've come across Jacobs' stuff before but just came across a song his brother did. I completely apologize - I forgot I was listening to a collab between Jacob and someone else. (I had to click off to soundcloud to listen so I think I forgot to even read the liner notes). Going back to read..

  • @spunky4455 Feb 26

Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, this is nothing to take too seriously, that's for sure. I hope you're having a good time this month.

  • @neilconnor Feb 26

re "I like this more with every listen, Neil! And I liked it to begin with." I really like it too. Its a got a gospelly/country meet U2 vibe and it keeps on going round my head. Will do a decent version when I get home and send it over. Got a riff for no strings attached but gonna wait till i get my electric in hand and a proper drums going. ๐Ÿ˜€ neil

  • @spunky4455 Feb 26

Hahaha, I am not putting out any kind of FAWM album, but I will keep our song up on my Soundcloud in your honor.

  • @sunnymae  Feb 25

    Hey Doug
First off welcome to your first FAWM! I hope it's been an amazing experience for you and that you keep coming back. We're an amazing Community really a family at the end of the day and we all look forward to gathering every year. I wanted to thank you for dropping by and enjoying my song Follow Me. There's so much music to listen to out there so I appreciate it when people do drop by and take a listen. Cheers and keep writing your amazing lyrics ๐Ÿ˜ฎ)

  • @wacha Feb 23

Thank you so much for your very kind compliment on "Jaguar". It means so much to me that you like this song this much. Once the craziness of this month is over I will be recording a proper version of the song.

On a side note, I will be working on what you send me this weekend. I write my FAWM stuff predominately on my ukulele but really want to sit with my guitar to work on it.

  • @wacha Feb 21

I just emailed you, I am totally up for a collaboration.

  • @wacha Feb 21

Thanks for listening to "Love Seeks", glad you liked it.

  • @michaelepic Feb 21

Thank you for your comment on "My Stache" ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 20

Hi.. again.. this is a scratch track with mumbles where the words should be.. all the chords are the same and so far no bridge etc..
Keep in mind the verses and the chorus overlap in harmony at the end.. so the words should blend too..

  • @akokulit Feb 20

    Thanks for your comment. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @beerobertparks Feb 20

Thanks for the nice comment. It was a very rare case of writing and recording a song within 24 hours!

  • @piney  Feb 20

  • @hazeyjohnii  Feb 20

Thank you very much for your comment on The Gift - I finished it:

  • @neilconnor Feb 18

And here's a demo of Desert - let me know what you think. Electric -but kept it simple. Hope its ok. Could do with a tidy up on the vocals and electric guitar.
    ๐Ÿ˜€ neil

  • @neilconnor Feb 18

Hi - redone vocals of Whitewash - think they're a lot better.
    ๐Ÿ˜€ neil

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 17

Thank you so much for the lovely comment on You were My hero!

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 15

Hi sent you the latest version..

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 11

Hey Doug.. If you send me your email.. I can add you to the collab link on songspace so you can add comments etc instead of going back and forth on this site..

here is the chorus part I was working on.. and you can hear it really wants to go to the next verse.. which is great..

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 10

Yes busy this evening.. can work with what you think works...
I also had an idea of the girl being a lady of the evening coming to make him happy once in a while.. but he falls for her as she is the only one that will touch him.. weird idea I guess..

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 9 your name... It's my first FAWM.ORG but I can write pretty quickly.. My voice is just passable though. Unlike many who write lyrics only, you keep pretty close to consistent meter and so it is easier to put a melody to it.
For those wondering why their lyrics have not been picked up by a melody writer.. most often it is because they don't write it in terms of it being repetitive verse over verse.

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 9

So if you approve I will add your name as a courier. Email me your name if you want.

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 8

I put music to your song.. for your approval..

    Here's the link..

  • @spunky4455 Feb 8

Hi, lot of people liked our song! keep up the strong lyrics!

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 7

Thank you for your kind words on my singing. What a nice complement!

  • @igg  Feb 5

I didn't realize that you were in crafty devil....

  • @rbmarty000 Feb 5

    Have a great Fawm

BTW I use mumble tracks as placeholders for lyrics so one just replaces the gibberish with meaning.:)

Hi.. I have a simple AAA song that could fit your style... if you are interested. I see it as an Irish or Scottish folk ballad...
    I use for collars

Doug nice to meet! Looking forward to our random collaboration!
