Influences: Far too many to name, but some artists I admire from a songwriting perspective are Josh Ritter, Iron & Wine, Tori Amos, Patty Griffin, Fiona Apple, Neko Case, Bob Dylan, Ani DiFranco, Sufjan Stevens, Alela Diane, Hozier, Kate Bush, John Prine, My Brightest Diamond, Lisa Hannigan, Jesca Hoop, J. Tillman/Father John Misty, Joanna Newsom, Damien Rice, Laura Marling, Jason Isbell, Joe Purdy, Anais Mitchell, The Decemberists, Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, Laura Veirs, Roger Miller, Arcade Fire, Milk Carton Kids, and Kathleen Edwards.
UPDATE (March 11): Starting to slow down with listening but will absolutely get around to all of you who have so kindly left comments post-FAWM!
2018 has been a rough year for me so far, and my last minute decision to participate in FAWM was literally the best thing I could have done. Thank you, thank you everyone, from the bottom of my heart.
Please look for me during 50/90! I may not aim for all fifty, but I'm hoping to use that time to experiment and collaborate more.
Speaking of collaboration, I did one post-FAWM collab with lyrics by @crisp1! Listen to it on my Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-881879340...
Best wishes to all and don't hesitate to stay in touch!
I mainly play slow, sad folk songs. Make 'em cry, that's what I always say.
I started writing songs in high school, and did the local coffee house open mic circuit for awhile as well as lent vocals to a couple different projects for friends. After college, I didn't have as much time or opportunity to devote to music, and as a perennial self-critic and procrastinator, I let it fall by the wayside. One of my goals when I turned thirty was to finally finish some songs and record an album, so here I am.
This is my first year participating and I'm not sure how everything works yet, but I'm not looking for a whole lot of critique--I'm mainly here because historically, I've been a great song starter and a terrible song finisher, and I just want to see if I can do it.

I'm having a big listening party on your Soundcloud today. You have such wonderful songs... I love your style. The tone in your voice reminds me a bit of Priscilla Ahn (I love her music) but you have a good style of your own. Looking forward to hearing more, and hopefully writing something together! 😀
Yea - I enjoyed what I heard a lot and plan on checking out some more. If you are interested in collaborating next year, definitely let me know! I write a lot of music and collaborate with a lot of lyric/vocal people. You have a wonderful voice and great lyrics, so I'd definitely love to see if something could work out. I don't typically do 50/90, but maybe this year, lol... 😉
Thanks for checking out Two Two Shuffle!! (Super late and I still check in once in a while). I see you already met my brother, down below. 😀 That was definitely a fun song to write and play, and Rob really took it to another level with the drums and percussion. I'm going to have a little listening party here. 😀
Yeah, the Ohio group needs some work....we have some good things going on, but no cohesion for even a FAWM over party. I usually go along with Michigan's.
Hey, good to see another Ohioan still here. I'm hit and miss these days on fawm, but will definitely give your songs a listen..
Thank you so much - I wanna find time to comment on them all, or at least just listen on Soundcloud. Will be interested to hear the updated versions too, though I do like that FAWM is just a snapshot of that moment in time 😀
Congrats on finishing your first FAWM! 😉
Winter is yours. You just have to email it to me when you're done! 😀 No rush!
Thank you for stopping by to listen, and thank you for all your kind words on my songs. I truly appreciate it.
Look at all these songs you FINISHED!! I can't wait to hear them. Your duet was divine. 😀
Goodness, thank you. Your bio sounds exactly like me.. I used to write songs longer than the bible, including, but not limited to, imaginary ex-galactic planets. When someone kindly pointed out that she didn't know what the songs were about I realised with a shock that I didn't have much idea either. So lately I've been trying to strip it all back to direct true feelings, feet firmly on our wonderful Mother Earth. I'll be commenting a lot all March so I'll defo get back to you.
Thank you again. Pearse
More to the point, I hope you keep it going music-wise post FAWM. You've got the songs and the talent. As long as you are having fun. I too gave up music for a while, which turned into an almost 15 year hiatus. I regret it.
Perfect, thank you. I've already followed you on Soundcloud, so I'll look for your music there. Hope you had / are having a wonderful FAWM, it's my favorite time of the year. I love all of the inspiration and networking with other songwriters / musicians. If you ever find yourself in central MA, look me up, I'll help you get a feature somewhere.
Sounds good! Thank you again.
You songs and your voice are amazing. I'd love to collaborate sometime, but work travel is going to limit my FAWMing for the rest of this February. Seriously though, you'll have to let me know where I can listen to your music outside of FAWM. And consider me on the list for a pre-order of that album... Got a website, or social media, etc.?
Seriously, I couldn’t be happier with the way “ when the new runs out” came out. Are you at all interested in doing another? I just got don’t with “when forever turns into goodbye”. Seems like it might be a good fit. If not that’s ok too. Figured I’d ask anyway. Thanks again!!!
Will you marry me?
Just got your email. Sorry bout that. Go ahead and post it. I totally trust you.
You are most welcome. Happy FAWMing 😀
Yes!!!! Super excited. You might have to mess around with the gray sweatshirt line to make it from a woman’s perspective. Do what you feel is right. Thank you so much.
Wow, welcome to FAWM. Watchlist added. I can't wait to hear more!
Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and comment.
Thanks so much for your comment on Wakeful Night!
Thanks so much for your generous comment on my skirmish song!
Thanks for the thoughtful comments on my non-skirmish skirmish. 😀
Also, two more things... I love your list of influences. So many artists on there that I’ve been obsessed with over the years!
And.... Would you be up for a Collab? 😀
Thankyou so much for listening to my music. I feel incredibly honoured!
Awesome. thank you!
I love your music! I would LOVE for you to put music and vocals to one of my songs. I’m very flexible on the structure of them. Let me know if you’re interested. Be blessed.
Hi clean shoes.. thank you for the comment on my song "River". Seems like you have good progress on your songs this year, have fun from the rest of your songs.
Thank you for your kind comment. I'll be back soon.
Howdy, I'm back listening to Winter Rivers now that I put up a rough demo of my thing. Check it out if you have a chance, I'd be interested in your opinion based on some of the excellent songs you're posting in a folky vein. It's here: http://fawm.org/songs/81884/
Fawm on, you're doing great! And thanks for all the very awfully kind comments!!
Thanks for checking out Winter River! I will get music up as soon as I am able!
Thanks CleanShoes. Your genre is mainly mine also. I love the folky country story songs. Hope you finally do your album, you have a nice voice. I've recorded a few professionally, but it is my dream to finally do an album also. I didn't get started until about six years ago songwriting, but I've written about 270 songs so far. I've a little weaker on the music composition, better on the lyrics, so trying to catch up and learn more of what I need musically.
Wow! It seems that this new crop of FAWMers come from super awesome musical roots. I love what you have shown us so far. Keep writing! Love your voice and guitar skills.
Welcome to FAWM. I hope you've been well welcomed. Welcome home! 😀
Hi and welcome to FAWM, aka, paradise for a song starter not looking for critique (which BTW is also me). The key for me is keeping up the pace, making quick choices, and embracing limitations 😀
Thank you so much for your feedback on my songs. I appreciate it.
Welcome to FAWM!! Glad you decided to be a part of it this year and I hope that it'll be a great vehicle for you to get some great songs on the finishing side of the line! 😀
