Chris Grigor — founder and director of Freshleecut Productions — is a musician, songwriter, composer, producer and music teacher. With his feet firmly planted in both the popular and artistic realms, Chris enjoys experimenting in all areas related to sound and music.
Having completed three years of study in trumpet performance at Douglas College, Chris went on to study acoustic and electro-acoustic composition at Simon Fraser University. In 2009, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree under the guidance of Barry Truax, David MacIntyre, and Owen Underhill.
During his years of academic studies, Chris continued to foster his lifelong relationship with songwriting, notably through his involvement with the popular ska band — Los Furios. After four years of contributing his trumpet, writing, and vocal skills to this group, he moved on to form his own ska-reggae influenced band — Heads Hang Heavy. This group has been making waves throughout the Vancouver music scene with their energetic live show, crowd-gathering street performances, and infectious songwriting.
In 2010, Chris set up the Freshleecut studio in Surrey, BC — a sonic laboratory to produce his own songs and art compositions, as well as the work of other collaborators. It also serves as a professional space to give private and group music lessons.
