influences: First one I remember...Sly and the Family Stone Since then, in no particular order...David Byrne, Prokofiev, Adrian Belew, Devo, Todd Rundgren, Keith Jarrett, Carlos Santana, Bjork, Jaco Pastorius, The Clash, David Holsinger, Thelonious Monk, Ravel, George Clinton, Jean-Luc Ponty, Miles Davis, Bill Chase, Portishead, Chick Corea Those are probably the most significant and the most obvious in my music.

Bio

Michael Michalski, a.k.a. Chasing Andromeda, has been involved with music for the better part of 40 years. Bitten by the bug early in his formative years, he took an interest in brass instruments first, starting with tuba, followed by horn and trombone.

In high school, he started dabbling with string instruments, notably cello, bass, guitar and banjo. Obtaining his degree in Music Education, Michalski joined the ranks of music educators for almost a decade. During his tenure, he arranged for many of the ensembles he directed, particularly marching band. He still arranges for marching band, concert band, jazz ensemble and chamber ensembles.

During this time, Michalski discovered the Commodore 64 computer with Master Composer software and started using this setup for arranging and composing. Shortly thereafter, MIDI 1.0 was introduced. Michalski was an early adopter, using his C64 and a Casio CZ-101. Throughout the course of the next decade, Michalski added outboard gear including Ensoniq, Yamaha and EMU synths as well as an Ensoniq sampler. During this time, he was busy doing custom arrangements for performers as well as using his MIDI rig in place of pit orchestras for local musical productions.

Today, Michalski is as busy integrating technology into his workflow as he was a decade ago and his musical vision is essentially the same. With eclectic listening habits, his music tends to fuse elements from a variety of genres without ever leaving the space of pop for too long. His music speaks to the inner joyfullness in all of us.

  • Andromeda, thanks for coming by to listen to my collab with Robyn and your complements are a true honor.
  • negasi 1 week ago
If I ever make a CD I want our collab to be on it tongue I cant stop listening to it tongue
  • nightengale 1 week ago
Michael, I think that is allowed. I think as long as a song has a collab set up in Feb it can be finished laterbut I'm not sure.
  •  PostModernist Music 1 week ago
    HIya
Thanks for stopping by my profile this time. smile
I didn't read the inner notes (sorry), was laying back with my eyes closed, enjoying.

I only mentioned patches because, its such a wonderful song, that if you are not able to program your own with a synth, resets from NI or some other soft synthesizer would still suffice.

Thanks for the feedback though and please keep up the good work.

    Julian
  •  looprication 1 week ago
    Hey there!

The mastering is through http://www.mixlogics.com/ - the engineer's name was Bill if memory serves me. He's out of Toledo?

As far as collaborating, would love to, but FAWM's nearly over and I've got other obligations sad After FAWM or 50/90 for sure!
  • musicsongwriter 1 week ago
Thank you so much Michael for your beautiful comment on Playing Boxes/Let's Be Friends smile

  • nightengale 2 weeks ago
Thanks Michael, I'll put you as collab!
  •  Robyn Mackenzie 2 weeks ago
    Most definitely! smile

I don't know that I'll have time for another collab during this last week, but I'll be around during 50/90 if you will.
  • nightengale 2 weeks ago
I'd love for you to do that song! Please do!
  •  cts 2 weeks ago
    Feeling much, MUCH better.
  •  cts 2 weeks ago
Uh...I'm not sure what happened with the mix here, man. I was just tuning in and it sounds like garbage. I'm just not sure what to make of this. I'll get on it and find out.
  •  cts 2 weeks ago
    Houston, we've got jelly.
  •  cts 2 weeks ago
I've locked this for the time being until I'm done with this vat of jelly. Shouldn't be too long...I'm thinking some time this evening.
  • negasi 2 weeks ago
    I'm excited big_smile
  • Punk Rock Funeral 3 weeks ago
thanks for your comment. I enjoyed this morning listening to your tracks and getting familiar with Skafish...really cool stuff, thanks for the new knowledge!
  •  cts 3 weeks ago
The post production is all you, guy. I'll just send the dry vocals and post the lyrics.
  • negasi 3 weeks ago
Adding you as a collaber now!
  • negasi 3 weeks ago
You gonna do music and vocals or just music? smile.
  • negasi 3 weeks ago
I would love it if you wanna take a go at it.
  •  cts 3 weeks ago
Hey guy...you want that I should keep the name Shimmy or shall we call it something else? I'm using shimmy in the hook, but just wanted to make sure that was fine with you. Maybe we could call it Shimmy (vocals). Just a thought.
  • theconsumption 3 weeks ago

Look for 'Ragdoll.' It's the first track I did with Madia, before FAWM.
  • sueawesome 3 weeks ago
Thanks for the comments on my lyrics....Billy did a great job as usual. Glad you stopped by. I'll have to check yours when I have a little more time.
  • After hearing Valentine's Day, I'm hoping I'll hear some more vocal collabs from your end. I love your atmospherics, but giving them the more poppy context that the vocals bring really amps it up a notch. Good stuff!
  •  Halfpenny Orchestra 3 weeks ago
Michael, thanks for signing up for Halfpenny Orchestra’s Loteria Challenge. You have been dealt: El Cazo (The Saucepan, No. 36). Looking forward to whatever you cook up... In the description of your song, please include the subject of the card and its number. Also, please include loteria as a tag. Have fun!
  •  Bruce H. McCosar 3 weeks ago
Thanks for the comment on "Rain Just Keeps Coming Down" -- actually, the plan WAS to add latin percussion, but I've injured one of my wrists from shoveling snow and ice. Congas will have to wait until version 2 big_smile

  • Glad to see someone else on here with a C64 background! I still have a 5 1/4" floppy with loads of .SID files I haven't gotten around to doing anything with. smile

    Hey There!

Thanks so much for your comments on "Shame" - would be very interested to hear what you did with it. I'll happily watchlist anyone who was an early adopter of MIDI!! I swear, I've been using it for about 10 years now and what I don't know about it could *still* fill a library! (or at least a really good Web site).

Very curious to check your FAWM stuff given your musical background and influences.
  •  Elaine DiMasi 1 month ago
Welcome! I'll make it a point to! And thanks!
  •  kathy moran 1 month ago
That was a beautiful posting you put in the forum about who you write for. I appreciated reading it and feel the same way about the things you wrote.

And I'm sure your parents are very appreciative of you and hear everything that you write. No doubt in my mind.

rockstar_not from KVR checking in on my fellow KVRians. Welcome and enjoy FAWM.
  •  kathy moran 1 month ago
Geezerlicious! Now I HAVE to write a Geezer Core song! Funny how many folks call themselves Geezers. I thought that happened sometime around age 70 or so, but I seem to qualify at age 51.

My songs are very humble and low tech (if I can get them that far), so go easy on me! On the other hand, by reading your bio, I'm sure I'll really enjoy your songs.

Congratulations on the impending grandchild! I have one who will be five in March and one that is almost two months old. What an amazing thing to watch them discover their world! I might have to add a lullabye to this year's list.

    Welcome to FAWM!
  •  Billy Sea 1 month ago
Welcome to FAWM, glad to have you here smile
Being a grandpa is cool. My first grandchild turned one year this past Tuesday. They have all been living with us which was awesome, but they are now preparing to get their own place. Lots of mixed feelings about that but I'm sure it will be the subject of a song or two.
    Congrats grandpa smile
  •  Chasing Andromeda 1 month ago
