Artist Bio

2016 was the year I discovered and fell in love with the creative spirit and community of FAWM. When I first started, I didn't think there would be any way I could hit 14 songs and if other FAWMers had not encouraged me (and if it had not been leap year) I would have failed. I'm so glad I stuck with it.

In the latter part of 2016, things took a turn and I got diagnosed with stupid cancer. I'm still going through chemo and I'm not sure if I will be having surgery in February or March just yet, but I'm still so excited for FAWM to be back and even if I find that writing 14 songs is more than I can do right now, I intend to be around spying on the rest of you. Commenting on the creative work of other FAWMers is one of the best parts of FAWM and I can't wait to read your lyrics and hear the music you are making. Thanks for being here!

Yes, well, you're a seriously talented writer-performer so it's easy to say good things about your songs. I'm sorry for what you're going through and send my prayers and best wishes for a full recovery. As a no-pressure PS, if you feel up to spending 15 min. or so adding your voice to "Humans", it would be great to have you on it. I'll do the final mix tomorrow (Sunday).

  • @monty  Feb 27

If you're having problems merging your vocals with my accompaniment, you can probably record the vocals alone under headphones and send the resulting track to me and I'll merge the tracks.

  • @tiller2  Feb 22

You are so talented. Many of us are good at one facet of singer/songwriting but you've got it all--lyrics, melody, singing/interpretation, guitar. Best thoughts for health and strength.

  • @popmythology  Feb 22

Hey! Thanks so very much for the wonderful comment you made on wickedmessenger1's rendition of my lyrics. And for saying "hi" too. 😀

  • @wickedmessenger1  Feb 22

It's funny, when I commented on "Rough Patch" I didn't realize that you wrote the lyrics. When I saw your comment I thought "what the heck is she talking about?" On another note, thanks for giving my version of PopMythology's song a listen.

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 21

    Hello!
The song Where is the man (that I married) is up...
Please let me know how you would like me to label it and how I should add you as a collaborator...there is room for only one person on the collab...Hope you like it...It turned out different than planned and my recording technique is very rough...thanks so much...xxxc

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 21

Well it's taken a completely different turn so not much similarity to
Your song but yours was the reason I went in that direction.
Seems that my character Roy from Shotgun Wedding has reared his nasty head again..xxx

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 21

I have run it by John.
I hope he likes the idea..
It won't be anything close to the beauty and skill of your song..
Seems it's the wife has something to say!
    Xxxc

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 21

    Hi sweetheart and good morning...
Just listened to ROUGH PATCH..what an amazing song!
You both did a great job...
I starting writing as soon as I heard it..would it be ok if I worked on a similar song through someone else's eyes.. I can't get it out of my head now ..not exactly a rip off but well kinda!

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 20

    To answer your uke question...
I took classes at the local Parks and Rec to get my basic chords under my belt...You play guitar so using the uke will be easy for you as you already know music...ie. tempo, sound, changing chords, singing while playing...your ahead of the game!!
Youtube has tons of stuff...just key in "beginning uke lessons' I like Brett McQueen...he's not boring, and is very easy to follow, his vids are pro and and most are free...you can dig in deeper with the uke with him too...Just get those basic chords down...you know the ones...C D G F ami..
they are all easy...the great thing about uke is that you can play cool diminished chords a lot easier than on guitar...Please let me know if I can be of help and I will dig in deeper to get you there...
all the very best and thoughts to you my friend...

  • @wickedmessenger1  Feb 19

I'm so glad you listened to my song "That Sounds Like Bullshit." I think it's probably the catchiest song I've ever done. I'm thinking of having a sing-along when I perform my FAWM songs in March. As for being cynical vs. my fun spirit, I seem to have one foot planted squarely on each side but when it comes to religion I think it helps those so afflicted to be exposed to some of the logical fallacies of their faith. The song stems from a Facebook post of a picture of a pickup truck crushed by a falling tree stating that the driver survived. All the comments were to the effect of "God was watching over him." Well, I was not at all popular when I said, "If God had been watching over him he could have made the tree fall 5 seconds later."

  • @majordanby  Feb 19

Thank you too for your other lovey comments, I have sent you an email.

  • @majordanby  Feb 19

Thanks for listening to we will see you soon. I'm trying to keep my songs simple and avoid too much negativity. Having just read the words back I realised you could probably add any meaning or back story. Had a different vibe this morning compared to when I wrote it.

  • @popmythology  Feb 18

Just stopping by to say I hope you're FAWM is going well!

  • @majordanby  Feb 18

Hi Brandi, Dan played me Sieze The Day, and read your back story, both of which blew me away. I just had round six of chemo on Wednesday & although possibly at the end of this period of treatment, I think I'm in for years of repeated sessions. Your words & attitude sum up this rubbish experience. I love your humour & hope you are treated kindly. Karl.

  • @adforperu  Feb 15

Ah, he's great! My first couple of listens were a bit "ahh, he's just a Dylan clone" but over time I really got into him in a big way. His last album wasn't great in my eyes, I prefer his stripped back stuff. Burden of Tomorrow is probably my favourite track of his

  • @monty  Feb 15

If you could rerecord it with a silent metronome it would make it easier/quicker but if you want, I'll try doing the accompaniment tracks and you can rerecord with them.

  • @wickedmessenger1  Feb 15

Thanks for the listen on "There Is No Second Chance." It means a lot to me. I think this will be a song I work on and polish up more.

  • @sph  Feb 13

Brandi, I miss your voice and your wonderful songs. Wishing you all the best!

  • @bithprod Feb 1

Hi Brandi, and happy fawming! You come highly recommended by Mr. @johnstaples, so I was wondering, perhaps you'd like to have a look at http://fawm.org/songs/65523/ and see what you think? I suppose it still needs more work to get the message across, but please let me know if you want to collab. 😀

  • @johnstaples  Feb 1

Hey Brandi! I just read some lyrics that would be really cool for you to add music and vocals to! If interested check it out,

  • @cynthiawolff  Jan 30

    gasp!!!
darling angel hang in there...plug into the healing power of beautiful fawmer family....write the best songs of your life and get them out there for us to hear....just loved your songs last year...one of my faves in fact...

  • @feeslip58  Jan 30

Good luck to you with your health and FAWM.

  • @popmythology  Jan 30

Hey, Brandi, it's good to see you here again too! I was hoping you'd be back. Thanks so much for your kind words. One of the reasons (among many) that last year was so intensely difficult was that my mom was diagnosed with cancer, so it wasn't even about just my own situation anymore. I put my projects on hold for almost half the year to focus on her, which is one of the reasons I felt very hesitant about FAWM this year. I love it dearly but it doesn't objectively improve the practical nature of my situation, which is what I need to focus on.... still, I probably won't be able to stay away.

  • @thefuneralcrasher  Jan 30

Thanks! Good luck and happy songwriting 😀

  • @mishykatz  Jan 30

Thanks for the welcome! So glad to be here!

  • @postcardhelicopters  Jan 30

I'm also curious to see how a theme goes, this time around. I've tried it in the past and had less-than-stellar results. But I remain hopeful and eager to give it another go.

  • @standup  Jan 30

Gah! That is so awful. I hope FAWM can be therapeutic in some way for you. Or at least a distraction. Please stay strong, I'd like to hear more of your songs for years to come.

  • @postcardhelicopters  Jan 30

Stupid cancer deserves a sharp smack in the nose with a rolled up newspaper. Hope your treatments go well, and it's good to see you around again, this year.

  • @johnstaples  Jan 29

Hey Brandi! See ya here soon? 😁

  • @standup  Jan 29

Hey there, hope you're in for 2017!

  • @kovbleu  Jan 29

  • @adforperu  Jan 28

Hey Brandi, hope you're around again this year! x
