Bio

Resident of Austin, Texas. third-year FAWMer. Last year, I did a lot of collaborations, mostly writing lyrics and providing vocals, because, well, I didn't play an instrument. In April, however, I decided enough's enough, and I started learning how to play guitar. Yay me.

Thank you for your comment on "The Easy Way Out". smile You're right about it being a little too long. wink I didn't expect anyone to want to collab on it, and intended to revise/shorten the lyric after FAWM. I still might do that, if Rod is game to re-record.
  •  downburst 2 months ago
Hey Kyle, thanks for the comment on our song. Yeah, I suppose it's a bit long. In the single cut we'll do away with the coda. smile
  • ballyhoot 2 months ago
    @jennsings, woohoo! Go us!!
  •  jennsings 2 months ago
Hey! The radio station I work with played our song today. smile I was in the studio giving a FAWM update & the host played our song. Of course, he talked over a bit of it (It is a talk station). But I was still excited to have it on a station other than the FAWM Cast. wink

Yay You!!! Going to make you my example. I have a guitar that I've never learned to play... next year, hold me to that! For one song anyhow smile
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    Demo is posted bud smile
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
Part 1 seems fine, Kyle! smile

Just grabbing the rest now... smile
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    Thanks Kyle smile

I mentioned it just in case. I didn't want you going through loads of aggro only for me to come back to you and moan about timing issues... wink

Looking forward to pulling this one together! smile
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    Hey Kyle smile

Sorry this has been such a hassle for you! sad

I'm in the office at the moment, so I won't get chance to grab the files and have a look until this evening. One thing that would make my life a little easier with the final mix is if all the different parts start at the same zero point in the song.

This will mean they will all have silence recorded from the very start of the song, but it's far easier lining them up with the music if it's done that way. wink
  • arthurrossi 3 months ago
Hey!!! This is very kind of you, thank you very much for this beautiful interpretation!!! sounds quite dark, but it is what the lyrics called for... I really like it!! And by the way, I could not hear any flaws, not even at the end where you have been that self-critical!!! A truly cool song, thanks a lot!!!
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    No problem, Kyle. smile

I'm back at work this week (in the office as I type this) so I won't be able to do anything musical (including listening) until I get home this evening anyway.
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    Kyle - I LOVE it!

When you're happy, just let me have your vox file and I'll do the final mix once I know what space I've got where.

    Ace work, bro! smile
  • lowartmusic 3 months ago
Thanks for the feedback on "Tipping the Ashes". I have posted a new version with vocals. Cheers.
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    That's great news, Kyle! smile
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    8-)

Can't wait to hear what you do with it! smile
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
    Cool. smile

The link to the wav file is:

Drop me an email if there's anything you need. wink
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
Thanks for taking the listen, Kyle. smile

And if you're not too rushed, would you be interested in a little something metallic?

Blame that @airbagtester bloke. He's shaken me out of the funky stuff and I now have a spare bed track that needs a home with a good metal singer and some lyrics. Interested?
  •  jennsings 3 months ago
yeah, if you can post it so that it will play, that would be great. i've never used open drive before, so i might be doing something wrong. thanks.
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Hey great mix on Dull Surrender! I think you nailed it.
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Sorry about that; I forgot that sometimes the links don't show up as links smile Glad you got it now though.
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Try right-clicking on the link and "save as" to your computer. If that doesn't work I can either email it to you or start a temporary song page for it like you suggest.
  •  jennsings 3 months ago
    Sure. What's your email address?
  •  jennsings 3 months ago
Hey! I've got something for Song #3, but my computer mic is worthless. I've ordered a new one, so I should have a better recording for you on Monday. These lyrics are not possibly what you had in mind when you wrote it, but that's what collabs are about, right?
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
I made some backing tracks for your song Dull Surrender:
    http://airbagtester.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dull_surrender-backing_music1.mp3

Unfortunately I couldn't get it to fit with the vocals and guitar you had laid down already... but I think it sounds like what you were doing and it would be awesome of you sang over it!

I can give you individual tracks if you need them for mixing; just let me know. I can also make .wav files available too but I thought I'd ask you first since they can be cumbersome to download.

BTW your singing voice is awesome smile
  •  jennsings 3 months ago
Probably write / sing lyrics. Vocals are really my biggest strength.
  • arthurrossi 3 months ago
Again I would like to thank you for your nice comment! you are very kind!
  • bong 3 months ago
    GL with the guitar.
  •  tiedyehero 3 months ago
yeah definitely got a little carried away. Should sit further away form my computer. Will do when I polish up the demo a little bit. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.
  •  jennsings 3 months ago
I am so delinquent in these things! I am not ignoring you! Just trying to get things in order around here. You'll hopefully hear something productive from me by Wednesday.
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Thanks again for your help with "This Fire," it rocks now! I agree that it's a bit sparse during the solo, but I think it's a good break from all the jangly guitars. I'm not sure what else I'd add to it, but I'm not averse to suggestions either.

The vocals sound like they're at a good level in my headphones, but I'll have to listen to it different places to make sure; my headphones have been unreliable for mixing lately. They might need to be louder; I dunno. They make the song so awesome I don't want them to sound buried!
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Here's a link to a newer mix where I toned down the guitar solo a bit:
    http://airbagtester.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/airbagtester-thisfirefallsover_2.mp3

I think if you repeat the chorus once more to go out it's done!
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Re: This Fire..." you're probably right; I've been mixing in my headphones and they haven't been so reliable. I'll dial the guitar solo down a bit. Also working on backing tracks for "Dull Surrender."

And yes by all means I'd greatly appreciate some lyrics to go with my song!
  •  jennsings 3 months ago
At the moment, I don't really have any ideas. email me what you come up with and I'll take a look at it.
  • arthurrossi 3 months ago
I listened to the song several times and I really like it! Thank you very much for this great track, the music compliments the lyrics very well as it also evokes quite a creepy atmosphere in some ways. Great performance, I also like the repetition of the 1st stanza, as far as I am concerned, I would not change anything about it (of course, unless, you would like to). Thank you very, very much for this beautiful collab! smile
  •  airbagtester 3 months ago
Sure I'll do a backing track for "Dull Surrender." I really like the song!
  • acciohaaley 3 months ago
Thaaaanks. There totally are too many words. I just didn't know how to say the same thing with fewer.
And I'm super glad your daughter's still enjoying the song even if she didn't end up singing it. (:
  • arthurrossi 3 months ago
I would be very happy if you gave it a try! smile Concerning the line "than a heart, nearly nothing's easier to break", it was supposed to express the fragility of feelings, nothing more... If you like we can change it or replace it as a pure addition of words would destroy the meter... what do you think?
  •  philkmills 3 months ago
Thanks for the Salesman's Suicide comment. Yes, you got the idea of the song...plus he has basically made the business of selling mass produced things obsolete.
  •  dragondreams 3 months ago
Many thanks, Kyle! Glad you stopped by to take a listen. smile
  • skipcoble 3 months ago
Hi mate cool to see you've picked up guitar now, looking forward to hearing your musics. First song is really cool.
  •  johncrossman 3 months ago
Howdy ballhyoot! You may have noticed this already, but you're on the random collab list: http://fawm.org/forums/thread/2707/

    Stay tuned!
