Bio

Update 2/25:

The bad news-- I haven't had a lot of time for FAWM this year.
The good news-- I've been busy with positive life stuff like raising children and helping my wife finish grad school. I was thinking of you the whole time, though. Honest.

Thank you for all of your wonderful comments and songs!

  •  Elaine DiMasi 1 week ago
I like your comments in the "song potential" thread.
  •  Fine Excuses 1 week ago
Thanks for the mighty nice comment on 'The Heron', Scott! How have I not got you on my watchlist yet?! Well, that is now rectified for next year...
  •  sapient network 1 week ago
Wow... where did all those songs come from??

    Well done that man big_smile
  • Ant Lion 1 week ago
Thanks, Scott! Looks like you mounted an even steeper eleventh-hour comeback; congrats on winning!
  •  Todd Norem 1 week ago
Damn...I had to do a double take when I saw all of your songs on my watchlist. Very impressive. Just looking at the posting times for your songs now: "13 hours ago, 11 hours ago, 10 hours ago, 9 hours ago, 8 hours ago, 8 hours ago." I have to catch up on my listening.
  •  Static Captain 2 weeks ago
Holy **** way to pull it out. I've got some listening to do a and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BTW!
  •  Jake - Missile Wings 2 weeks ago
Congrats on completing FAWM!! You came out of nowhere!
  •  devin 2 weeks ago
I was thinking of you (in a fellow-gamer kinda way) when I wrote this chorus:

Where are songs 6 thru 14? Hello, hello, is this thing on? Am I chasing down the wrong man?
Nothing new here for a week.... Saddens me... why?
  • tigewill 1 month ago
Hey Scott- We really enjoyed your stuff at the Dunn Brother's Wednesday. Jenny said she found herself smiling all the way through your set- well done! These sound really good- I especially like Sort of Man!
  •  Steve Q 1 month ago
Got my hosting figured out smile
  •  Dan Vaillancourt 1 month ago
    Thanks Scott!
  •  Julie 1 month ago
    Hey there Scott O smile
  •  Mike Debenham 1 month ago
Option (e): all of the above? No decent ideas on my side yet, but I'm up for anything. Lyrics tend to be the bottleneck for me, so if you've got some ideas in that direction by all means send them over. If not, perhaps I could send you a shabby musical sketch to kickstart some lyrics?

I think it'd be fun to get us singing harmonies.
  •  Jake - Missile Wings 1 month ago
Nice work on Chautauqua! I'll clean it up later on, but I think the idea is there. Makes me laugh with the very Pixie ending! How'd you learn to scream in the car like that. Oh wait....don't tell me.
  •  Static Captain 1 month ago
Thanks. I had to rig an mp3 hosting provider whose server I'm pretty sure is hosted in some war-torn third-world country. Can't wait to hear more from you.
  •  Static Captain 1 month ago
That's weird. It plays for me... I switched from Boxst to yahoo because boxstr was too slow, yahoo appeared to work great, but that was before you had problems. Please try again??
  •  Bruce H. McCosar 1 month ago
Thanks for your comment on "Beware the Age of the Machine" -- the "No Robots" concept was a leap of faith on my part, but then, I've been practicing with metronomes so long I think I've internalized a lot of the rhythm and timing. All I have to do is find the natural groove and it propels itself along. I never would have tried 'flying without a net' if it hadn't been for FAWM.
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
Cheers m'duck (very English), thank you Scott, your comment was really kind.
  •  Potato 1 month ago
im on the atkins... no carbs tongue
  • Catherine 1 month ago
i'm back and you'd better believe it, let the horns commence!
One of your songs from last year came up on shuffle last week and reminded me that it was nearly fawm time, i've barely been able to wait since then.
  •  Elaine DiMasi 1 month ago
You've got a super-power. You can win best comment even when you put the false modesty *in*.

ps Let me know if you need a third person to enter the triangle playing conflict. I could dig the triangle triangle concept. Especially if it combines the words "menage a trois" with "triage".
  • lazyafro 1 month ago
thanks for all your positive feedback! And hey, if the kids like it, you know you're doin' something right! btw I just listened to your first song up and I like what I hear, I enjoy slower folk ballads like that. Bravo!
  •  Mike Debenham 1 month ago
Cheers, Scott! If you have any ideas about where you want to go with the collab, or want to start arguing over who gets to play triangle (that would be me, by the way - sorry, it's my triangle and only I may play it), sling an email to <snipped to foil the spambots>.
  •  Steve Q 1 month ago
I think my demo is linking properly now...it does take a few extra seconds (more than most) to load.
  •  Steve Q 1 month ago
Hey there-I was wondering what you use to host your demos. I can't seem to find a way that works...help?
  • You are a commenting DEMON! Everywhere I go, you've already been there, said something nice. Maybe that makes you a commenting GOD? No, wait - I prefer thinking of thoughtful, commenting DEMONS.
  •  sapient network 1 month ago
You're on. It's a plan. Let the madness begin...
  •  sapient network 1 month ago
So do you want to do words or music (or a bit of both) for this year's AutoSapient combo?

You have noticed that I have hit FAWM with a hyperactive picking hand, so may need your help slowing it down wink
  •  Valerie Cox 1 month ago
I'm so glad I could make you shiny and happy. smile One another note, I just listened "Pop Feelings"~Rock-a-licious!
  •  Jeff Landgraf 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment Scott... I think I know what you mean, as the chords in the verse are kind of modal (at least the bVII is in it), and then the chorus goes to a I - IV -V major feel. I definitely intended a color change in the chorus and am glad you heard something there...
  • lazyafro 1 month ago
Ha hey thanks! I saved it as an mp3, i didn't know it needed to be saved that way to play in the jukebox since this is my first time doin it, but it works now. Thanks again!
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
Scott - thank you so much. I have such a love/hate thing going on with my voice! Your comment means a lot to me. smile
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
Scott, thanks for the comments! they're always so positive and energetic, i always end up believing them... 'yeah, he's right, that IS a great lyric!' i think. which is probably not healthy.

i can't wait to hear whatever you come up with. i have Better Year and Less Convinced Of My Own Greatness on my ipod still from last year.

i was thinking, for a collab later in the month, how about i write a lyric and you put it to music and sing it, maybe?
  • Thanks for the kind words about Arnie, Scott. I'll be back!
  •  Bruce H. McCosar 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment on "How Many Miles Beyond?"

Believe it or not, that guitar stretch at 1:45 took a lot more time and effort than you'd imagine. I could hear the tonal quality of the synth I wanted -- to suggest time passing between the first version of the town and the return. I just couldn't find the actual sound right away! It took me about 30 minutes to find the right patch, then to tweak it until it fit with the guitar.
  •  Simon Waldram 1 month ago
Thanks for the song comment, Scott. Most appreciated smile I remember you from last year. I'm looking forward to hearing what you come up with.
  • Classical Cat 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment! Happy to throw a wrench in the old jukebox.

    Hi.Thanks for the comments.
Yeah, I thought it would be cool to have a 'blues' song in a major key.
  •  Halfpenny Orchestra 1 month ago
SoC, thanks for signing up for Halfpenny Orchestra’s Loteria Challenge. You have been dealt: La Sandia (The Watermelon, No. 28). (Note this is different from “the melon,” which is also a loteria card!) In the description of your song, please include the subject of the card and its number. Also, please include loteria as a tag. Have fun!
  •  Dan Wallbank 1 month ago
Thanks, man, that comment really boosted my spirits today!
  •  oddbod 1 month ago
Hi Scott, glad you like the cover art. It's the second one I've used...just can't make up my mind which one to go with! I get the originals here -
http://lpcoverlover.com/ - and then adapt them slightly.

    Good luck
  •  Steve Q 1 month ago
Yes, I'm FAWMin' again-can't wait to hear this year's batch!
  •  Frances 1 month ago
Awesome picture, Scott! What note were you trying to hit? Personally, I find the more extreme my facial expression, the more impressive the vocal performance. smile
  •  Mike Debenham 1 month ago
Note to self from 2009: "Agree enthusiastically if Scott asks you to collaborate. Don't think too deeply about what 'getting one's oil changed' is a euphemism for."

    Done and done!

Likewise, I was walking around recently saying to myself, "and that's half your problem right there .. and _that's_ half your problem also .. and *that* ..."

Spontaneously. Hypothetically, in fact. For a friend.

There's only one remedy for a moderately severe case of nO'Clamp and here's hoping it will be delivered to our Internet doorsteps this February.
  •  devin 1 month ago
My good dude...thanks for your great comment. Buddha...wow, is like an idol (pun, ha!) for me, as I'm normally "Mr. Aggressive" myself, hehehe.

Maybe I should check my med dosage?

"But tell me this, young gamer....when I hold this controller, how do I tell where my hand ends, and what is not my hand begins?"

  •  Bruce H. McCosar 1 month ago
Hey, greetings! So far I've made it in 2007, 2009, and hopefully 2010. In 2008, we were in the process of moving from Florida to Virginia -- I was doing home repairs and getting the house ready to sell. Then of course the market crashed :S

But we made it. Last year was a really productive FAWM, with four songs 'sticking with me' up to my 6th Jamendo album. This year my goal is to work on internal rhythm -- "No Robots Allowed", eg, ditch the drum machine and try to create songs that rely on the instruments for the beat. I know I can do it with bass, but the idea is to branch out into strong rhythm guitar and "rhythm piano", if you can call it that.

You, my good man, have the intellectual capacity to understand what a true gamer goes through. So I thought you may enjoy the stinger in this cue I wrote for Charlie (I mean the second song on the thread I put up...first one I put up is just metal, no humor).

Itchin' to get started on this FAWM!!!!
