2017 - FAWM number 5

Looking to throw some instrumentals into the pot this time. I finished 50/90 with a song that had a brass section built from individual sampled instruments rather than using an ensemble sample and it's made me want to see what else I can do with orchestral samples.

As for the rest; well, same as usual as long as I can get enough noise-pollution free time to get some vocals down.

11/02 - Looks like I'm going to beat last year's disappointing total as I just uploaded song 5.

17/02 - Not only have I beaten last years total, but it looks like I might even complete the challenge this year.

26/02 - Nearing the end and 3 to go. I've got some part written songs that need vocals. Hopefully, I'll just sneak them in under the wire.

01/03 - Even with the AWS related Souncloud problems. I managed to get my last 2 songs uploaded, so that's FAWM completed this year 😀

I am going to sort out an album running order and release on Bandcamp in the next week or so.

Oh! Your album cover is so meta!! Very refreshing...

  • @barbara  Mar 11

Congratulations on having made it to the FAWM trophy this year! I really like your meta-fawm song, and it seems like you're living out the message in it, so you really are making it your own. Thanks for checking out "Surrender" - it's a weird feeling to be the only song on the zongs board. I can perhaps see why you busted your own!

  • @scubed  Mar 6

Thanks so much for your kind words about "It Shouldn't Be Spring"!

Congrats on a successful FAWM! 😀

  • @audrey  Mar 5

Thank you for your kind comments on my songs "Christmas Memories" and "Winding Path".

  • @mdd64 Mar 3

thanks for your feedback on "Disco Girls" . Was trying for an update on a Barry White type tune.

  • @wacha Mar 1

Thank you very much for your feedback on "Rise Up". Congratulations on getting to 14 songs!

Ah, but sometimes it takes an artist to fully appreciate a 'happy accident' and redraw the vision around it. Being in the game is what creates the intersection!

Hi Atitlan. Thanks for you comments on my and @nikke88's collab Shine. The inspiration came from Nikke. He knows how play that bass! Lyrics were done in a hurry to add some entries to my meagre output. Not the best of Fawms this year due to my aching teeth and headaches. Been slow to return comments too. Oh well. There will be other Fawms...

  • @odilongreen  Feb 26

Thank you for keeping up with my "Cell Phone" album. I know most people (very understandably) don't have the time or patience to continuously work their way through an amateur multi-song narrative cycle, especially even as they're trying to complete their own FAWM, so I wanted to let you know I do very much appreciate it!

  • @barbara  Feb 24

Yes, some EQ adjustments would be all that is needed. It was 'bigot' and 'commie' that I couldn't quite make out. I really understood the opposition of sides, but I wasn't clever enough to make out that you actually pitted 'left' against 'right' as they are politically. Bonus points!!

  • @phlecksy  Feb 24

The Scritti comparison was partly about the voice, but also the mix of sweet timbre & what to me seems like an 80s dancy vibe with political content. "There is no golden age/ To which we can retreat/ Just vested interests/And a matrix of deceit " is pretty Green! (The voice too.)
    Anyway, good stuff.

Hi! Thanks for checking out 'Deluge'. I decided to post before trying to do anything more with spatial arrangement, because I was ready for sleep, but I'm beginning to enjoy that type of playing around too.

  • @lissielou79 Feb 23

Thank you very much for your comments on, 'That day, one day'

  • @pornstache Feb 18

Hello and thank you for your comments on What Circles Above. Good luck on getting to 14 this year!

  • @popmythology  Feb 16

Oh, yeah, when I mentioned Pachelbel I totally didn't mean there was anything wrong with that! I love the Canon in D so it was meant in a good way. And actually, yeah, you could totally tag it #classical if you wanted to! 😀

  • @ihelen  Feb 16

Thanks for commenting on my spring song! Hope you're having a good day. 😊

  • @aprilm Feb 16

Thank you for your comments on Your Sweet Valentine. I consider anti-Valentine because it rejects the gushy commercial attestations of romantic love. lol Nothing worse than celebrating "Hallmark Day" lol

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 14

Thanks for your insightful comment on Tip of the Iceberg and so glad you for the serious undertones we were aiming for. It was a fun write!

  • @barbara  Feb 13

In an orchestra pit, of course! But they'll need sandwiches...

  • @klaus  Feb 12

Hi Atitlan. Thank you for your comments on Read My Hips. Looks like you're doing demos at weekend too. 😀

  • @barbara  Feb 12

Thanks for your thoughts on my experiment. I didn't quite get the deep plunking water percussion effect I had in mind at the start, or even manage to add a regular rhythm to the track, but it was a one-take situation, so I just played at what it wanted to do and hoped for the best. I think the overwhelming irregularity worked okay, surprisingly. I went home with a smile!

  • @barbara  Feb 9

Yeah, 5 out of 7 are skirmishes so far, but I think I might not do many more for a week or so. It's time to turn to some other ideas and experiments.

  • @barbara  Feb 9

Hi there!! Thank you for your comments on two of mine recently; it's nice to get that support. I am really enjoying layering the vocals, as you can tell! Looks like you're up to some interesting work, from the bio. I will tune in over the weekend, if not before. Cheers!

  • @klaus  Feb 7

Hi Atitlan. Thank you for commenting Do You Wanna Rock ( Live! ). I had my doubts about the intro, it is little bit over the top, isn't it! Glad I kept it and glad you liked it. 😀

  • @guatecoop  Feb 6

Well, please do! I would love them on that tune. I was thinking kind of a 4 beat, 1 chord, thing with saxes and trombones....maybe trumpet, too. Or maybe a staccato descending run with the same instrumentation.

  • @kissinginpublic  Feb 6

I've been to Bingley Music Festival! I went the year Happy Mondays played. The beer certainly flowed that year. Lots of crazy dancers 😁

  • @guatecoop  Feb 5

Yes, exactly! I would guess that you start with the root and go from there. The trick is to make it all purposeful, rather than cluttering...which you did very well! Maybe I will give that a try at some point.

  • @timfatchen  Feb 4

"Paid for"! I mean, you've got a top-line DAW there, part of the cost is the topline samples such things should have! It's still a quantum step up to professional filmie things like Hollywood Strings. Sometimes it's cheaper to hire an orchestra, I think! 😉

  • @timfatchen  Feb 4

PreSonus? OK, then they're high end brass samples, for which you've paid anyway!

  • @cblack  Feb 4

Yep, I didn't find it jarring at all.

Also... Electro-prog? I'll take it! Honestly, though, at this point I'm happy when what I make sounds like actual music, regardless of genre. 😝

  • @seanbrennan  Feb 3

Thanks for painting such a nice picture out of my viola piece! I had basically pictured an empty, unlit cathedral as I played all of my string stuff, so it's kind of fascinating to read what people have come up with for it.

    Cheers, and happy FAWMing!

  • @arthurrossi Feb 1

Hi! I wish you a lovely and prolific February!

  • @klaus  Jan 31

Hi Atitlan. Hope you have a fine Fawm number Five! 😀

  • @odilongreen  Jan 30

Welcome back! I'm looking forward to your instrumentals (although I wouldn't object to some more vocal tracks too! 😀 ).

  • @jamkar  Jan 29

Greetings and happy FAWM to ya!
