Kingston Canada   Feb 2016

Artist Bio

Influences:   Blues, Bessie Smith, Tom Waits, Stevie Nicks

21 Fevrier - my first song I have ever done in French. Collaborated with a lyricist from France and I hope i did the beautiful words justice.

February 15 - working on a song on the piano. Got a basic melody, a baseline, some interesting chords, and the beginnings of some lyrics. Hope to put it all together tomorrow and post a demo!

Proud to have made it to the Century Club and have done 14 songs and it's only February 12th!

Ended up writing a blues song and no piano or electric guitar lol

Going to try another collaboration. Want to try to use either the piano or my electric guitar this time.

I am always so amazed at the positive comments, the helpful suggestions and the appreciation for my music and my voice. I struggle with being self-conscious and have terrible stage fright (only with singing though) so your encouragement has helped me build my confidence.

I am also so humbled that some have decided to put me on their watch list. What a lovely compliment.

You all drive me to keep going and to improve my skills.

Thank you!

Ready for another go!

Have learned a lot since last year and 2016 FAWM gave me so much confidence as a song writer.

FAWM 2016

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this awesome experience! I love the camaraderie and the acceptance here! So much talent and so much genuine generosity!

February 25th - reached the 14 song threshold! #14 still needs work, of course, and truthfully, all these songs need development, but I have to say, I am proud of my creative endeavours this month!

February 23 - getting close to the end of the month - two more songs to go! Might try something on a keyboard next....hmmm...

Challenging myself by trying out the mandolin for a fun little song. I am truly enjoying this FAWM! I can't believe I have been inspired to write at least the beginnings of 10 songs in 19 days! Thanks to all of you who have encouraged me along the way so far.

Added some rough scratch recordings to allow people to hear the songs!

After being sick for almost 2 weeks, laryngitis and doctor's orders to take a break from singing, I am back!

Hope to record in the next week, a least some scratch tracks to share here!

Returning to music a few years ago after a very prolonged hiatus, I am back to writing songs, relearning guitar, working on my voice, dabbling with keyboards, mandolin and whatever else strikes my fancy.

I am currently into blues and am inspired by the old school blues artists of the 1920s and 30s. Wrote my first 12 bar blues song this week!

😀 for your comments on Honey in the Cup. I'm running late on thank you's and will be listening during March. I'm glad you recognized the metaphor. I don't do well with metaphors at all, so that is a big win for me!

  • @sueawesome Mar 1

    It's posted!! Get tissues!!!!!!

  • @kingwoodkowboy  Feb 27

You are very welcome. Always a pleasure listening and commenting. Your songs are very special. Thank you for your support. Yes February is almost gone but this shouldn't stop us, there are always other months. I know though it is very inspiring to create when we know people do listen and care.

  • @ladyred Feb 24

Thanks for your feedback on "Connected" <3

  • @lia404 Feb 21

It's totally fine, don't worry about it, it's important that you get to rest first 😀 Remember that FAWM is for having fun so there's no pressure. Do your best and enjoy, that's the most important! (And do take care!)

  • @jessica14  Feb 19

Just read that ou crossed the finish line! Congrats!

  • @benbarden  Feb 18

    Congrats on hitting 14 songs!

  • @lia404 Feb 17

Sent you an email 😀 Sadly this won't bring back your bilingualism but I hope it can make you a little nostalgic of hearing and speaking French 😀
    Take care!

  • @lia404 Feb 16

Thank you for your feedback on my song about The Hermit. Please be my guest if you find a melody to match the lyrics, nothing would make me happier 😀
Do tell me if you struggle with pronunciation; I can try and record myself reading them if you want, so you have a base for work.
I'm glad my choosing French makes sense, I was really unsure about it.
Take care and happy FAWMing 😀

  • @tabulhas07 Feb 12

thanks for your comment on my song I still want the girl that bad, but its not what she wants sadly but im glad she can be my muse to make heartfelt music with I'll be adoring her for awhile

  • @yam655  Feb 12

Congratulations on hitting Century Club! 😀

  • @timfatchen  Feb 11

"Mystery"... violin played longingly would work, keep it high but not too kitsch. Mandolin, years, a sharpenss would guard against too much kitsch from the violin. Beware of wind chimes, use sparingly (!)

  • @kristi  Feb 11

It's always fun to hear what people "hear" from a lyric! Thank you again for your great work! 😀

  • @colgoo  Feb 10

Thanks for commenting on "Forgotten Women".

  • @brownium  Feb 10

Thanks for the comment on "Random Road" (http://fawm.org/songs/69558/). I accidentally bounced a small chunk of it, but discovered the error of my ways. The whole song is there now!

  • @jessica14  Feb 9

Thank you for listening. I thought the same, I think I have done a good job growing into myself and I am excited about the road ahead of me 😀

  • @kristi  Feb 9

Just to let you know, I sent an email re: Money Man.

  • @rainchaser  Feb 9

Thanks for your comments on "And So I Joined". I tried not to spend too much time on the recording, by one hour, I'm already rushing it by limiting takes/arrangements. But it appears to be that for the song, I didn't spend enough time in the writing process of balancing the music with the length of the lyrics, so I did it in the recording process. That's why it took longer for me to record the song but another issue was getting one take of guitar playing that plays all the chords correctly despite the strumming at certain points being sloppy. The strumming pattern along with the bpm made the recording process difficult, and also at times the pick would slip out of my hands due to humidity. If I weren't able to recorded a decent take that was heard in the song, I would have simplified the strumming patterns. As for the mixing process, I usually spend no longer than 30 minutes for it, but sometimes I would go over 10 minutes on tweaking one plugin, and I'm trying to fix that issue.

Hey April! Just came over to say "Hi". I am glad to see you are having a ball at FAWM 😀 I ' ve got the flu, so things have been slow for me. This way I get to listen to all of you creative people 😀

  • @unkept Feb 9

    Greetings fellow Facebook FAWMer!

  • @kristi  Feb 9

LOL. Okay, sure. See what happens! (Btw, if some lines have troubling metering/singing feel free to fix or let me know and I can try to. I had trouble with a few of them while writing and that was w/out a melody!).

20s, 30s R&B is a great place to be. Congratulations on the 12b. Learn the Pentatonic positions and you'll own it, call and response. All the best this year! 😀
