Artist Bio

Influences:   Some influences but not limited to: The Cure, Catherine Wheel, Peter Murphy, The Church, old REM, Smiths, Cocteau Twins, TFF, Chameleons, Furs, Verve, Depeche Mode, Tori Amos, Radiohead, Keane, Oasis, Matthew Good, Kitchens of Distinction, Grant Lee Buffalo, and other similar 80's and 90's bands.

I started as a bass player. I was fascinated with the sound and style of Simon Gallup from the Cure and wanted to try to emulate that sound. After playing in 2-3 original bands I began playing guitar and writing songs on a 4-track for a future project that would not take shape until early 2000. I wrote music and played in this band until around 2006, when my drummer, bassist and I joined forces with singer/songwriter Stacy K. (kovbleu). This project lasted about one year until Stacy moved out of town. I stopped playing for quite awhile but missed it. Stacy and I had at one time discussed doing a long distance, part-time collaboration and we named our band "The Homesick". This collaboration finally materialized with our first song on the 2017 FAWM network. I am excited to see what 2018 brings!

That Breedlove model is pretty inexpensive. I got mine off Craigslist, but I've seen them on sale for around $500. The Tacoma is my favorite guitar that I own and I got it in 2000, before Tacoma was bought by Fender. I've had great luck with the Audix f15 and use them for overheads on my drumset as well. I for them for $50 on the Stupid deal of the Day at Musician's Friend. My brother @guatecoop also uses them and likes them a lot. I'm not sure what DAW you use, but there are lots of free gate VST's you could use to get rid of the hum. 😀

@zecoop they sound really good. I've played a couple Breedloves at GC before and liked the way they sound. the 12 on one side and 6 on the other; yes that is the way I think. I need to get some good acoustic mics; I will look into the ones you mentioned. The Line 6 stuff is great for direct recording. I have a Line 6 amp that has a direct-out but it does make some hum, which is audible in some of our songs-I need to get a noise gate...

So funny, but I'm not surprised you caught that. Before it had a title (well, and even after) we were texting back and forth and just calling it "the Sundays song." hahaha I went that way on purpose because the guitars just screamed for that kind of vocal. But then I added a little more bluesy vibe in parts and the end to make bend that line. Glad you liked it! 😀

Thanks so much - I love the songs you and Stacy write as well... Quite a privilege being in a band with all that talent. 😀
My acoustics are a Breedlove Atlas Stage D25 6 string and a Tacoma DM912 12 string on this one (I have a 1960's Silvertone 604 parlor that I got for $25 that I like too). My standard acoustic guitar recording setup is an Audix f15 right next to the 12th fret and an AKG Perception 220 out in front of the soundhole. if the song is more sparse, then I'll go with a stereo pair of f15's by the 12th fret to give it a good stereo image, along with the 220. But one of my favorite sounds, which was used on this song, is to put the 6 string on one side and the 12 string on the other. It just sounds so full. 😀 The bass is a Fender Jazz and it's just going through my Line 6 Bass PodXT. I have amps that I use for shows, but rarely use them to record Bass on demos. Rob recorded his drums at his house and Stacy was at her house. Chris will probably record at his house

Thanks for listening and for your encouraging words. I love soundtracks too 😀

Thank you; very kind. I hope to get at least several done this month. Stacy is a vital ingredient in this, as she "gets" the songs and I rarely have to change very much. I can't sing so I was fortunate to find someone so talented to collaborate with. It's really fun to see how the songs turn out after the vocals go on, because unlike a band-where you practice stuff and work out parts live, I send them over and she does her half of the songwriting and then I get to hear a totally new song for the first time. Really fun.
