Bio

My name is Matt Alba and this is my 4th year participating in FAWM. In years past, I have been really pleased with the music I've created personally and the inspiring words of other participants. I am an independent musician and songwriter. I began writing songs and poetry as a teenager and began playing guitar shortly after. I've released one solo album ("In Spite of the Crows") and one album as a member of The Gutsy Tumbler Band("Vividness of a Dream"). I spend most of my time playing in Wisconsin but have had a few shows in Illinois, California and Turkey. Music, for me, has always been about the fun. I love the feeling of finding the perfect words or hitting a favorite chord. Its always great to play music with friends too. This year I hope to participate in more collaborations. I look forward to chatting with old fawm friends and meeting new ones.

Thanks for your comments on Little Black Shoes. Yeah--I just started clicking at the end and enjoying it and then i realized it's like they're tap dancing smile I looked it up randomly and this guy in the 1930's who was famed as 'the singing cop' and he wrote a poem about little black shoe and a woman looking at it in her attic and thinking about the son she lost. I guess little black shoes tend to end up in attics with old women staring at them wink . . . Anyway--I've had an awful cold so I'll record in the next couple days. Yeah--Sun Sure Did Set is awesome. I listened again to a few of yours. Your writing is really strong and alive!

As usually, I really appreciate your comments! I really had a feeling you'd like 'drip down honey'. Not to be full of myself, but the music for that one is particularly good I think. Haha--the best stuff that happens is always a gift, when you let go of yourself so I can't really claim responsibility big_smile I just hope I can play it a bit decently ;P . . . By the way--What are the chords for in the sweet sunshine? I'd love to learn to play it sometime big_smile (I seem to use extra smiley faces when I'm tired--sorry about that!... big_smile )

Hey there--I put it up and only afterwards I saw that you set it up so I could post it to your original posting...should I put your comments in what I posted or should I post the file into your original file? Let me know smile And let me know if there are things you'd like to change or add or anything!

I don't know the ideal way to get the words, etc. I have to you so far, so I'm going to through it on a track and label it 'jam collab--in progress'...Hope that's okay--I don't know how people are doing their collabs--by email?
  •  livinginthemusic 2 months ago
    Awesome big_smile

Thanks smile You really got me thinking about the Sufi's and spiritual drunkeness. I've been meaning to read about them for quite a while. The little I'd heard definitely made me feel an instinctive kinship with them...I've recorded some more and I'll put some up later today. I unlocked some lyrics you can check out if you're curious.

Thanks for your comment on Mystic Stranger. Yeah...when I started adding more stuff to it it kind of drained out the vocals a bit. Sorry! However when it's properly recorded it will be all better. Have you ever heard of Rocky Votolato? I think you would like his stuff....from what I heard in your songs smile
  •  livinginthemusic 3 months ago
After I read your comment on the lyrics, I wanted to clarify which part the poem is and make sure I give that guy credit (!)--I found something pretty intriguing regarding his history and (to me, at least) it makes it take on some pretty interesting other meanings. I made a comment about it on the song--you can look if you want. Since you're spending time with Rumi and such folk, I think you might find it pretty interesting. smile

Thanks for the comment, Matt! We deleted the version of We All Dance Like Fire you listened to and consolidated it to one track. No need to comment again but just in case you were wondering where your comment went to. I look forward to listening to some of yours when I am not at work.

Thanks for the comment on Awake My Heart. The lyrics are pretty personal to me so I really appreciate the feedback.
  •  livinginthemusic 3 months ago
Haha--suspense;) I have unleashed one of my new songs' lyrics smile Mostly cause it feels like such a tease to have so many locked up! (I did find I felt more organized having at least what I have in there though). I'm finishing 'em up, I swear!
  • arthurrossi 3 months ago

    Thanks on the Earth song.
As far as kindles or nooks--that would be possible smile
As far as America I have trouble telling Americana from various kinds of country. I've read a couple definitions of it though
I just got one up I;d probably call traditional country. I wanted to put up an a capella as to the way I hear it but the dang MP3 won't play. Others may hear it differently though. I guess I'll have to holler at Jen aqain
  •  tiedyehero 3 months ago
    will do, sir.
  •  tiedyehero 3 months ago
